Curry

Curry is a great and wonderful thing... and now it cures arthritis!  Yay!

Curry spice 'help for arthritis'
Extract of a spice used in curry could help prevent rheumatoid arthritis and osteoporosis, US research suggests.

Turmeric has been used for centuries in Asian medicine to treat inflammatory disorders and its extract can be found in western dietary supplements.

Now lab work by University of Arizona researchers, in Arthritis & Rheumatism, shows just how the spice's curcuminoid extracts have a therapeutic effect.

Ok, ok... maybe I exaggerate a little...

Experts say new drugs may be found, but eating more spices is unlikely to work...

Professor Robert Moots, professor of rheumatology at Liverpool University and spokesman for the Arthritis Research Campaign, said ... "I do not think there is any evidence that countries that eat a lot of turmeric have a lower frequency of rheumatoid arthritis. So simply eating more spices is not likely to be effective clinically. "

Dammit!

Eat more curry anyway.  Tis lovely.  So... poll time, people.  How do you like your curries?

I'm pretty sure that the people who run Indian restaurants make it up as they along.  How many different spellings of 'poppadums' have you seen?  'Pappadums'?  'Poppadoms'?

Reminds me of a story I saw in the local rag last week with the headline 'POOPERONI PIZZA'  because a environmental health officer found mouse droppings in the open tubs of pizza toppings of a Clevedon firm.  Mmmmm, nice!

I made my own curry last night and it was delicious

I didn't realize it was a little spicier than I had intended though, and I gave it to the baby, and while he ate it, he made weird little coughing/laughing noises the whole time. It was cute hehehe

This reminded me of the evening when the JDK took me to my local indian restaurant and the menu quoted a dish containing the ingredient 'cocnut', which made me laugh until I cried. Strangely the JDK didn't find it funny and sat there completely straight faced (probably on purpose!), which made me look very silly when the waiter came over and I had tears streaming down my face and the JDK was looking all stern and serious!

Incidentally ... what's chicken yoghurt?

A rare but painful avien disease?

A chicken living structure similar to a yurt?

What happens when a person with a heavy spanish accent gets injured while going for a run?

...

yog = jog, but with an accent?  Get it?

So, he's there looking stern & serious & you're crying?  Nah, the waiter probably didn't think you looked silly, he probably thought the JDK was an evil man for making you cry!  Personally I think he should take you out for another meal to make up for it!

Ooh, I see those words, yet they somehow read as "I know you're right, but I shall NEVER admit it! (Even if you do bad things with my eyeballs & a hot skewer)"  Make that a posh meal Catfish!

I liked the 'background' music!  And the convincing way the pretend tres merged into the painted mural on the wall to give the effect that we were sitting in a sunny italian garden...  with conjuntivitus!

Hmm... I don't think I've ever had an actual curry dish... but there is a little curry in my chicken n' peaches recipe.

I really should get my butt to an Indian restaurant one of these days and see what the fuss is all about

I can't believe you've never had curry!!!!!  Any time you're over here the best places to go are Leeds/Bradford or Leicester.
