I once tried to build an asp page with VB 6 script, it didn't work out too well. I think the code was right, but I didn't have the correct server thingy on my machine.

Incidentally, why .Net? VB 6 no good?

Yep, something is rotting in both Denmark and with my IIS.

Oh I know this one! Pick me! Pick me!

Ok everyone get tucked in and snuggly... time for a story

Long, long ago in a land far away called Washington there lived a fairy princess named Bill Gates. Bill was the leader of all fairy princesses and he lived in a huge castle called Microsoft that ruled over all the lands he could see (and some he could not). Princess Gates liked to keep his palace tidy and, like all good homeowners, knew he needed to take out the garbage. However, being as large as Castle Microsoft is, it only needed to be taken out once every six months to a year. He surveyed the area and realized that the poor peasants living on his lands had already used the landfills to the point they were overflowing. What to do! Day and night he pondered until he came up with an ingenious idea - "I will sell my garbage! Those peasants will buy anything I tell them to buy because I am the ruler of the land! Muahahahaha!" With a quick realization that evil laughs are not suited for fairy princesses, Princess Gates cleared his throat and decended the large spiraling stone staircase to explain his plan to... whoever happened to be the COO of Castle Microsoft for those 5 minutes.

Many years went by and Princess Gates sold his garbage to all the peasants on his land. The packaging he used was impressive. The sales strategies were ingenious. The profits were so astronomical that a jealous rival Princessdom tried to split the Castle Microsoft in two. But alas, Princessdom Microsoft was too powerful.

One day, Princess Gates started having trouble convincing the peasants to buy his garbage because they already had all the garbage they could handle. "I'll need a new strategy," he thought, and went back to Castle Microsoft to sleep. That night, in the middle of a smutty dream involving Princess Gates, Steve Jobs and a herd of she... (you know what, never mind)... Princess Gates awoke in a cold sweat shouting "I'VE GOT IT! NEW AND IMPROVED!" It was an amazing sales strategy, although one that was controversial at best, and had minor logistical problems at least. (How exactly is something "brand new" and "improved"??) "I shall change the name of my product! No longer will I call monday's garbage 'Word for Windows', it will now and forevermore be called 'Word'! No longer will thursday's garbage be called 'VB6', from this day forward I decree that it will be called 'VB.NET'!" Knowing full well that the .NET would drop off the name someday - much like 'for Windows' did on Word for Windows - Princess Gates felt this marketing strategy was infallable. Whenever his garbage stopped selling, he would again change the packaging and name... and sell it as new.

The moral of the story: .Net is just old garbage in new garbage packaging

Nicely And!

One of my favourite VB author's, Bruce McKinney has the following to offer: Link.

So, maybe that's why. But .Net isn't standard by any means that I can see as of right now.

Really it's so hard to guess at this point. It's not standard at all, but from what I've heard from a few authors (no links to provide because I can't remember their names.. but I'll check my books when I get home), and what my story was based on, basically .Net everything is supposed to replace everything that's out there now and in a few years they're going to drop the .net so it goes back to being "vb" "asp" and whatnot so that it then becomes accepted as the new standard.

But I agree with your author. VB is dead and buried. Kind of sad, it was the first programming language I learned fully

That's so sad.  Shall we hold a vigil for it?

Could, but it would go on forever eh?

How about a funeral?

I shall miss it!

Pirate Bonnie, why not build it in VB6? Then you have a built in consulting gig in two years to convert it to .Net.

Oh kind and gracious king, I do believe holding a vigil is a moral imperative.
