Ohrwurm

Apparently the Germans have a word for a song that's stuck in your head, englessly repeating itself.  This word, I am told, is 'Ohrwurm', which translates to 'earworm'.  (Maybe if Clavin logs on in the near future, she can confirm this for us???)

Anyway... the song I have stuck in my head at the moment is the chorus from the Automatic's 'Monster'.

What's that coming over the hill?  Is it a monster?  Is it a monster?
What's that coming over the hill?  Is it a monster?  Is it a monster?
What's that coming over the hill?  Is it a monster?  Is it a monster?
What's that coming over the hill?  Is it a monster?  Is it a monster?

I've had this part from Disney's Beauty and the Beast running through my head for the last 4 days...

Life is so unnerving
For a servant who's not serving
He's not whole without a soul to wait upon
Ah, those good old days when we were useful...
Suddenly those good old days are gone
Ten years we've been rusting
Needing so much more than dusting
Needing exercise, a chance to use our skills!
Most days we just lay around the castle
Flabby, fat and lazy
You walked in and oops-a-daisy!

I don't know why.. I haven't seen that movie in ages. Just popped in while I was doing dishes the other night.

i have an infallible cure for getting rid of such songs from one's head.. it may only help the british members of this board (or any australian ones we have) but..

are you ready for it?...
sing the neighbours theme tune - do it a couple of times, really concentrate on it then tada, both songs will be gone from your mind

.. infallible as in it works for me

Do you not run the risk of simply having Neighbours stuck in your head?  That can be an acutely irritating tune.

Here... um... read this.  It's... er... terribly interesting...

What you need is a tune that will self destruct as soon as it has done it's work.
