DaVinci's B*llocks

Oh fer f*cks sake

Da Vinci in new plagiarism claim

A Russian art historian has accused The Da Vinci Code author Dan Brown of plagiarism, just days after a British court rejected a similar claim.

Mikhail Anikin, from St Petersburg, said he would sue Brown if he did not receive an apology and compensation.

He claims Brown stole his idea that Leonardo Da Vinci was also a theologian and his Mona Lisa portrait was an allegory for the Christian Church.

The Da Vinci Code was published in 2003 and is a global blockbuster.

All this fuss over  a book that closely resembles a steaming pile of fresh poo.  Dog poo, specifically.

This pile of dog poo right here, in fact:

Me thinks you spent entirely too much time on that...

Did you GIS for "poo" or did you have that image readily available?

Back on topic... kinda...

Reading "Da Vinci Code" does alter beliefs: survey

LONDON (Reuters) - "The Da Vinci Code" has undermined faith in the Roman Catholic Church and badly damaged its credibility, a survey of British readers of Dan Brown's bestseller showed on Tuesday.

People are now twice as likely to believe Jesus Christ fathered children after reading the Dan Brown blockbuster and four times as likely to think the conservative Catholic group Opus Dei is a murderous sect.

"An alarming number of people take its spurious claims very seriously indeed," said Austin Ivereigh, press secretary to Britain's top Catholic prelate Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O'Connor.

"Our poll shows that for many, many people the Da Vinci Code is not just entertainment," Ivereigh added.

He heads a prominent group of English Roman Catholic monks, theologians, nuns and members of Opus Dei, who commissioned the survey from leading pollster Opinion Research Business (ORB) and have sought to promote Catholic beliefs at a time when the film's release has provoked a storm of controversy.

ORB interviewed more than 1,000 adults last weekend, finding that 60 percent believed Jesus had children by Mary Magdalene -- a possibility raised by the book -- compared with just 30 percent of those who had not read the book.

The English group demanded that the "Da Vinci Code" movie, being given its world premiere at the Cannes Film festival on Wednesday, should carry a "health warning".

The group, which stopped short of following the Vatican line of calling on Catholics to boycott the film, accused Brown of dishonest marketing based on peddling fiction as fact.   Continued...

Motives of the commissioners of the survey aside, it concerns me that the general public are so easily influenced by the popular media.  Do people really simply accept what they read or are told without question?

Wait, what am I saying?  Of course they do.

Listen up, everyone.  I am your King and you each owe me £100 which must be sent to me in crispy new fivers in a brown envelope by the end of next week.  You will do this because you admire and respect me and are in awe of my fabulousness.

It's true because you read it.

Studio banks on Da Vinci prequel

Author Dan Brown's precursor to The Da Vinci Code novel is to be transformed into a film.

The Da Vinci Code movie took $224m (£119m) around the world in its first weekend, despite poor reviews and controversy over its religious subject.

Columbia Pictures, the studio behind the film, has now ordered an adaptation of Angels and Demons.

The novel again features Robert Langdon, played by Tom Hanks in the film, and is set around the Vatican.

Hmm.  Maybe someone will notice that it's the same damn book...
