B.N.P.

Here's a weird thing.  We've had leaflets through the door from each of the parties standing in our local and Euro-peeen elections and the single most reasoned, literate and sensible leaflet was from... the BNP!  While the other parties simply bitched about each other, the BNP simply informed us in simple langauge what they stood for and how they planned to achieve their political goals.  That's a scary concept!

(For Nate's benefit, the British National Party is an extreme right wing group who want to get all the 'darkies' out of Britain.  And that's it.  That's all they're standing for.  Liberal, they aint!)

So that's how you spent your day off - deciding which way to vote.

Very commendable, respect dude.

He's a good boy!!

I'd just like to clarify that it won't be BNP (bunch of shaved headed racists)!!!!

It's all very boring, but very necessary!

In Australia and Austria it's compulsory to vote you know, and in India they get time off work to go and vote - my team out there had a day off a couple of weeks ago so that they could go and vote.

Hmm.  Our company has organised a conference in Andover in the afternoon of voting day with a voluntary (but if you don't attend you'll be persecuted and opressed for the rest of your career) dinner afterwards.

Since I'm usually at work around the same time as the polling stations opened, I informed my boss that I would be coming in late that day as I had to perform my civic duty.  He told me that because we had the conference he wasn't going to bother voting and gave a a look that said  - and why would you bother anyway???

Not going to bother voting.  This is the same guy that complains about the state of the roads and tax increases and how the police can't be bothered to take on any of our fraud cases.

I keep having this discussion with my mother as well.  She's a teacher, which means she's employed by the government.  But she doesn't like getting involved in politics.  So every time she starts complaining to me that she's underpaid or the school is under-resourced I feel the need to remind her that as she hasn't bothered voting, she doesn't have any right to complain.

It tends to be be people with more extreme political views that always vote while more conventional thinkers tend to 'not bother'.  That's why the BNP got those seats in Parliament last time.

I agree with Oz and Austria.  It should be compulsory.  Maybe they could increase your income tax by £50 each year which gets refunded when you vote.  That'd get more people in, surely.  or when you go into hospital or phone the police, they look at your polling attendance while deciding how to prioritise you.

There.  Bet y'all didn't think I had it in me!

Skin heads normally I think.  I have seen one or two mullets in town recently - it's very disturbing.

As are the BNP.
