Moving out, moving on

Well, I finally did it.  Have at last managed to escape the building site I called home for the last 9 & a bit years (6 months from accepting an offer to completion, with no chain either way - useful tip for house selling; have a personality survey done on your buyer, do not procede with sale if he is a tosser batting).  Am now renting a most fabulous room, no bills other than rent, no responsibilities - bliss.  Once I've recovered I'm planning to take advantage of no longer beng tied to bricks & mortar & start looking for work further afield & once I've paid off the negative equity I will no longer be tied to earning a decent salary, so can start thinking about doing something more fun with my life.insanity

Good for you! I'm jealous actually. That sounds like the life dream that people have that never gets realized. I really hope it works out well for you.

Ta. I'm very much taking the one step at a time approach (& thank f*ck I did, no way could I have co-ordinated that farce of a sale with a job change), so shall just see what happens - I'm the kind of person who's actually much happier without any grand plan.

It's like the end of an era. I think you've lived in a building site the whole time I've known you.

I kinda miss that building site...

I have to ask - what is it about your new room that makes it fabulous? Does it have a disco ball in it? Tell me it has a disco ball...

I hate to disappoint you both, but there's just a dressing table mirror & one on the wardrobe. It's fabulous, not fabulous (less camp, less disco).  It's all nicely decorated & spacious &... finished!  Not a bare brick or exposed wire in sight :)

On reflection I think we may have known each other slightly longer - I bizzarely recall a conversation about cutlery draw tidy thingies (do they have a name?), me having just bought one when I moved in.  Am thinking I must have moved in some time after we got told off on UA.

You may be right.

I haven't been told off for posting on a message board for ages. Maybe we should nominate ourselves an ultra-strict moderator...

Wait, let me go find something to tell you off for, it can't possibly take that long...

I was going to tell you that as you're a self-confessed incorrigible pervert I'll be watching you, then I realised that's probably a bad thing to say to a self-confessed incorrigible pervert, then I got bored of the game.

You guys keep referring to getting kicked out of UA but I never heard the story. Care to elaborate?

ooh! yes! I like a good story too.

PS - congrats Shazza - any thoughts on what 'more fun' looks like?

I'm leaving the JDK to tell the story, he's better at stories than me.

Not sure what more fun looks like, but it would definitely involve a whole lot less computer time.

Once upon a time, in a land exactly like this one, a group of miscreants* racked up a 900 post 'General Chat' thread in the 'General Chat' forum at UA**. This was notable because the General Chat in question was racked up in about 48 hours.

This raised the ire of the grumpy UA administrators, who took exception to their use of the 'General Chat' forum for 'general chat' and told them to take their 'General Chat' elsewhere.

Thus the Jammie Dodger Bored Board was born and became the premier location for quality General Chat on the the internet!

The JDBB reigned supreme for a few years before Facebook stole it's General Chattery thunder and many of it's members drifted off to pastures new (or at least got real jobs!).

* ddvmor, sha76jam, BonniePirateAnne, Andromeda and NateO among others
** As I recall, the 'General Chat' centred mainly around the subject of Jammie Dodgers and their raspberry flavoured plum jam.

Excellent, though I would like to point out you missed the subversive plotting via UA PMs.

Well now that sucks.  I would think that "general chat" would be allowed in the "general chat" area even if the the chatters were generally chatty.  What if hungry people were ejected from restaurants for eating?  What if movie lovers were ejected from theaters because they laughed during the movie?  What if "gentlemen" were kicked out of brothels for being horny?  I was in on a few of those Jammie Dodger threads and I don't recall getting MY pp whacked.  I guess that I had a few less posts on the subject than you guys.  See though... if you guys weren't misfits we would not have our beloved JDBB.  I always did think them blokes were a little stuffy at UA.  Haha, I can't imagine Nate being kicked out.  I can remember when Darren sent me the invite to this place but I had no idea that all this other crap took place.  They just don't recognize coolness when they see it.

Think there'd have been an uproar if they'd kicked Nate out - we were maybe a little less useful! Mind you, we weren't actually kicked out per se, just given strong warnings.

and who doesnt like a strong warning!? for me, personally its the best of all the warnings!

I didnt realise there was so much drama behind the beginnings of the JDBB, surely there is a film in it. If they made one about Mark whatsits facepalm thingy which is just a website, sure the JDBB can have one? what shall we call it?

You'll have to speak to Michael Bay.
