Some people will complain about anything!

BBC drops 'digital face' trails

Faces campaign

A promotional trailer for digital TV - which some viewers complained was "horrific" and "disturbingly psychotic" - has been dropped by the BBC.

The Faces campaign, which featured a giant animated head made up of smaller heads, generated 1,300 complaints.

Horrific?  Disturbingly psychotic?  Were we watching the same advert?

Gotta say, when I saw it, I thought 'Gosh that's terribly clever'.  And that's about it.  What's wrong with people?

Anyone else catch it?  Were you disturbed by it?

Another thing that caught my eye this morning:

'Terrifying' Santa advice dropped

Father Christmas

Warnings about frightening pantomimes and "terrifying" Santas have been taken down from an official website for teachers.

The website had warned that children might be upset by some traditional aspects of Christmas entertainment.

Many children dislike the dark or crowded rooms, so be sensitive to this if you are planning some atmospheric lighting.

"For very young children, Father Christmas can be terrifying, and if you are planning a visit from Santa, you'll need to make sure that fearful children are near an exit.

"Trips to the pantomime can cause alarm, so the same planning applies," said the Teachernet advice.

This cautious approach to Christmas was condemned by Margaret Morrissey of the National Confederation of Parent Teacher Associations, who warned that it could deprive children of their enjoyment.

Yay.  PCness is great, innit?  At least Margaret's talking some sense for a change.  Any kiddie that is scared by Father Christmas is probably a big girl's blouse and should be told in no uncertain terms to stop being a little brat.

As an aside, It amuses me greatly that my mother is also called Margaret Morrissey and is, indeed, alaso a teacher.

No, but I don't feel disturbed. I do feel disturbed while watch stuff like 'E.R.' where they're showing surgery on people who have been mauled/maimed.

Are the British a fairly sensitive group in general? Or just 1,300 cases? It seems like the bleeding heart liberal is strong in this one...

Scary Father Christmas? Is that not just a little on the silly side?

I would think that the 1300 pantywaists who complained were in the minority.

Well, let's hope so, 'cause Oliver is of British descent, and I can't be associated with that load of cojones!

I notice we have a much greater tolerance for sex on telly than Americans... but less for violence and horror.  Dunno what point that proves.  Just sayin, is all...

I'd probably agree with that, and frankly, I'm with the Brits on this one!

Maybe we just want the same from telly as life.  I mean, which would you most like to occur in your day?  Sex, violence or horror?  Ah, maybe the theory holds true for America too, you are 'blessed' with a lot of hard rights over there...

God, I can't think of anything worse than replicating real life on the telly.  It would be like an endless stream of bad reality shows...

...er, hang on...
