The following Dodgers have been smited by the JDK for their crimes against Jam:
All the girls! for picking on the JDK and damaging his already delicate self esteem!
The Basserd Who Nicked Copper's Stuff For the offense of nicking Copper's stuff. You are a tw*t, whoever you are and we all hope you get run over by a tram in Nottingham. Or Liverpool. Or whereever else they have trams!
Copper For the crime of playing with her Wii instead of her Jammie pals!
Yeah, that's right. I've already seen a movie this year.
It was ET. I don't think I've seen it since I was about 10, so my memories of it were a bit hazy. I especially didn't remember the bit where Elliot calls his brother 'penis breath'.
I disagree - I actually think it was one his weaker scores. I always felt that he was pretty much ripping off stuff from Star Wars and Superman with that one. There's definitely a prominently reccuring strain of Princess Leia's theme in it.
Did you see the one with the rifles intact or the one where they were replaced with walkie talkies? (the scene where the kids fly over the police car on their bikes)
No, not really hehe. I was just curious because they made such a big stink about it over here and how the original would never be seen/shown again. I was curious how true that was.

They may have similarities in tune, but they are constructed quite differently - I think it stands a good suite of themes in its own right.

Watched Sam Raimi's Drag Me To Hell last night. I didn't know anything about this movie, having only heard the name once or twice which is weird because I'm usually right on top of Raimi's stuff.
First thing, you have to know this is a Raimi film, which makes the wackiness understood and expected. It has it's scare moments, and the "ewwwww" moments but it's so over the top ridiculous most of the time that while it's technically a horror movie, it's hilarious. If you liked the Evil Dead movies you'll probably like this. The ending was super.
My only complaint about the film is that Alison Lohman and Justin Long's acting was really wooden and blah. Alison does the physical stuff well, but when she dialogues, it sounds like she's reading off of cue cards. Justin Long is ... Justin Long. He's the same guy in everything he does. Alison also has abnormally large hands... seriously... they're huge and I don't know if it was intentional, but she looks like a spoof version of Kirsten Dunst in the Spider Man movies. Lorna Raver was fantastic as the old woman.
The Car makes it's usual appearance, but sadly Bruce Campbell was nowhere to be found which made me sad, but it was still enjoyable without him.
I quite enjoyed it. Although there were points when I thought I was expecting Natalie Portman to look in the mirror and see Brad Pitt telling her about soap. Also, although her performance was excellent, I found it hard to get past the cardboard Natalie Portman that appeared in the Star Wars prequels. It's gonna take her a while to recover from those movies, which is why I guess she's making stuff like this.
Anyway, it works as a well constructed, albeit see-through thriller. Everyone in it is excellent and there's a couple of excellent bits of cinematography in it- including the opening sequence which is one continuous shot.
That said, I have no idea how good the ballet in it was. It all looked a bit shit to me, because ballet is a bit shit. But the rest was not shit.
I've been busy on my week off. Whilst working on a new animated project, I've also been watching tons of movies. Laptops rock.
X-Men, X-Men 2 and X-Men The Last Stand - dunno what made me rematch them, but they sure were fun. The last one may not be as good as he others, but it still had lots of pretty effects nd Ian McKellen being awesome!
I was expecting Limitless to be a big box of covks, but it turned out to be quite watchable. Bradley cooper is a writer who comes across a drug that makes him super clever. The only major problem with the movie is that I kept expecting him to use his new brains to do something awesome, but all he did was make a bunch of money. I'd have liked to see some grandiose Fight Club esque social reforming going on.
Stead has reviewed the animated movie Rango before. It was pretty damn good.
Another one I was expecting to be a bit shit was Attack The Block, especially when it started with a thoroughly unlikable gang of kids mugging a woman and then beating a passing alien to death thereby revoking an invasion of toothy critters. I was worried about unsympathetic protagonists. But I turned out that the writers new what they were doing and included some excellent character development which made the film pretty good. It could decide whether to be a comedy or a drama though.
I just went to add Attack The Block to my Netflix queue and it suggested a movie called "Norwegian Ninja". It might be because it's early, but that made me laugh hard enough to add that one to my queue as well.
I now have a big ol' list of Movies Wot I Saw thanks to a lot of flights lately, these include:
Captain America : Better than I thought it would be to be honest. I was expecting the overly patriotic tone of the original propaganda comics and while it was there in some aspects it also seemed to knowingly self mock for it. Bad guy was good, some decent action. Not the best Marvel movie, but not bad. Stan Lee's "creator" credit confused me a little though.
Thor : Again better than expected, big silly action bits and dumb jokes. Not much plot really, and the end was a bit tacked on and brief ... but still, amusing for 2 hours and a good set up for the Avengers.
Green Lantern : About as expected. Pretty but pointless.
Green Hornet : 8 funny jokes connected with 90 minutes of toss.
Underworld Awakening : By far the weakest of the franchise. Again some decent moments, and it's always good to have Charles Dance being vilainous.
Dillenger : Bloody brilliant. Johnny Depp as Dillenger. Doesn't really try to make you love him as a character which is good as it would have gone against the story. Interesting turn from Christian Bale. Gritty, violent, highly entertaining.
Star Wars - Episode 1 : The Phantom Menace ~ 3D ..... yeah. Moving on. Alright ... always good to see Star Wars in the cinema but this was about as 3D as a cave painting. If this was Lucas "getting it right by taking his time" I'd hate to see the original pass. Pointless 3D conversion. Took my 3D glasses off at one point as the big space battle looked remarkably 2D ... turns out that's because it was. Could have watched 90% of it without the glasses with no detriment. Hey ho ... I'll still go see the origianl 3 to see them in the cinema, not because of the 3D though.
I watched "Patton" one more time, along with all the attending documentaries...As a result, I'm now researching the US Army XX Corps, AKA the "Ghost Corps"......Ben

Finally saw "Paul" last night. It was amusing, but not as good as I know they are capable of. I think maybe because I dislike Seth Rogan so much, it took a lot from it for me.
I caught a bunch of references, but I'm pretty sure there was a significance to what "The Big Guy" was wearing during the big reveal.. and something "Tara" said... but I can't put my finger on it.
I watched all three Spider-man movies last week. The first one is pretty good in that it has well developed characterisation, proper character arcs and plenty of exciting, well realised action. The second one is even better, building on the strengths of the origional and cementing the series as a really successful, strong franchise that guaranteed to make you a ton of cash and pull the punters in like flies to doggy doos again and again. The third one is an object lesson in how to demolish that franchise.
Also, I went to see The Cabin In The Woods with Hengle and thoroughly enjoyed it. I'm not the worlds biggest horror fan, but I do rate Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard as storytellers and they always create great characters and excellent dialogue. This isn't a standard horror movie, which is made plain in the first few minutes, although I don't wanna spoil it at all. The last twenty minutes or so are pure cinematic genius!
I vaguely remember reading something about that. What is it? A remake? A whole new movie starring three new Stooges? I'd have thought that the comedy in a Three Stooges movie is quite reliant on that character of the original trio. That would surely mean that a new one would be a Three Not Stooges movie...?
