UFC - the fastest growing sport in the world

So, it was UFC 139 this weekend. Dan Henderson returned from Pride to fight Shogun Rua for a chance to take a shot at the Light Heavyweight title held currently by Jon Bones Jones.

UFC is the biggest brand in mixed martial arts. Its easy to dismiss this (as a good friend of mine does) as mindless guys clubbing each other to death but actually these are (in the main) martial artists at the height of their powers tactically executing a plan of attack to maximise on the other guys weakness, whilst preparing for the fight with the top nutritionists and trainers money can buy.

The output of all of that means that the fight over the weekend was one of the most exciting spectacle and gutsiest performances I have ever seen in or out of the ring. Dan Henderson at 41 used incredibly skill and experience to nullify the age advantage of the 29 year old Rua. But both recovered from near game ending wobbles to go the full five rounds.

If you havent seen the fight get yourself a copy from somewhere and sit back and enjoy! I can heartily recommend it.

You just need to learn what they're actually doing 'on the ground' the smallest transition can turn the fight - but it does take a bit of getting used too. Thankfully the crowds are getting more educated so there is more appreciation of the technicalities these days (well most of the time anyway!)

Unicorns For Christ?

These are the only UFCs I am aware of ... and in not one is there fighting ... there is "fighting" but it mostly resembles fencing with much froth dodging needed. And it usually lasts more than five rounds too.

I can only assume it's Unicorns For Christ given your mention of Dan Henderson but, to be honest, I was unaware you were either a believer OR an advocate of aroused naturism. You learn something new every day eh?

My next door neighbor is an ex-UFC fighter. His ears are all jacked up, but he's a nice guy and our kids play together. Last winter he helped me dig my car out of the driveway twice.

That's all I got.

[Redacted]. I don't think he was very big in the UFC matches, but people seem to know him. He's more known for some UFC reality show thing he was on. He stopped fighting after the birth of his second child.

Not too worried that you'll find and stalk him ;) He's got a wikipedia page which I made the mistake of reading. It's not good to know so much about people that live near you lol

 

Edit: On second though, I'll just PM you.. I dunno what shows up in google search and I would hate for him to see me talking about him if he happened to google himself ;)

I didnt recognise him but his record wasnt bad, and he went the distance with a couple of big names - so he's no slouch!
