Hmm, is this really true?  I agree that Halo's comments are a tad harsh...but also agree that the concept of criminalising unauthorised reproduction is ridiculous (and fecked up...)

Just because a bill has been drafted does not mean a thing. This would never pass and even if it did, the courts would reverse it on the first lawsuit brought. All this means is that at least one ultra-conservative state politician (Republican Senator Patricia Miller) has her head up her ass.

Brian is right - it will never pass. That doesn't make it any less disheartening that there are people like this out there though. Public officials no less.

Deep fried Oreos and Twinkies are not uncommon fair time food stuffs round here... well not HERE here.. this country here.. mostly in the South I believe. I don't think I've ever actually seen them here. (NYC)

Never heard of those Jackie, must be the deep south. I guess I am in a southern state (Missouri). I don't think it really counts though. My fav's are the elephant ears/funnel cakes.........yum. Also ostritch burgers and gator tails aren't bad either although I think they are really just chicken in disguise. We get lots of bbq type fairs here in St. Louis too because of KC being close. Me likes the pulled pork bbq sandwiches

There I go making myself hungry and it is not even close to lunch time yet!

Deep fried Twinkies is one of them fair-type foods (like funnel cakes, etc).  I remember the commentators at this year's Little League World Series talking about them.

As for the issue ... as someone who would certainly be labeled as socially conservative ... I'm downright creeped out.  Makes anyone right of center look bad, I say.  Annoys the piss out of me.

Sorry, if I offend anyone. These are only my opinions.

This proposed law basically ties artificial reproduction to adoption and also gay marriage laws. They want people that want artificial reproduction to have to apply and go through a screening process similar to adoption. This part of the law, I can half-way agree with just so unfit people (people with criminal records, history of abuse, or no way to provide for children) do not become parents. The last part of that becomes a moot point because in-vitro is expensive, the couple better have money to care for the kid afterward! The part of the bill that I do not agree with is for anyone to even apply they must be married. This ties directly to gay marriage issues (gay marriage is illegal in Indiana). Gay couples have been allowed to adopt and have proven themselves every bit as fit parents as traditional male/female couples. Also non-religious couples that have simply chosen not to marry would be excluded. This law (if it passes) would be a precursor to other bad stuff like the overturning or Rowe Vs. Wade that legalized abortion. Rowe Vs. Wade said that a woman had a right to privacy when dealing with pregnancy. This is just the other side of that same coin. Women have a right to conceive. The only way the government (in my estimation) could regulate this is if the couple applied for state or federal assistance or went through a state or federal program. We have a private medical system, not social so the government can keep its nose out! This is just a pandora's box in my opinion

Ok, I am off my soap box now.

Funnily enough the name pandora came to mind when I was reading your paragraph too. It'll never pass -  but it will keep the lawyers well fed which is good cause I was getting worried about them...

annnnd sorry if this offends anyone, but personally i think anything that overturns a law legalising/legalizing abortion is a very good thing indeed.

Think I'll just sit back and watch...

Oh... and for the record... I think that those particular americans are nuts.  I accept that there are non-nutty americans out there and that they both live in New Jersey...

I don't live in New Jersey.

There's a wonderful book by Margaret Atwood called "The Handmaid's Tale". This bill sounds like someone read it and thought "hey! now THAT's a good idea!"

Now you know why after I earned my BSc in Finance from Indiana University, I promptly left the state!

I read that.  I didn't think it was a good idea.  Does that mean I'm not nuts?

Heh.  You said it, Jackie.

Anyway - I didn't say that nuttiness was neccessarily a bad thing.  There are different categories of nuttiness and within those categories are many degrees of categorised nuttiness.  For example, I consider you to be a level 2 cashew.  I like cashews...

Best to fit in elsewhere, mate

The problem, like Gary, Indiana is to Chicago, Illinois, is that NYC has managed to push its rubbish all the way across the state line, right into New Jersey.

Hmmm, tend to be a pro choice man, myself, not a big fan of big brother telling me my business.

New Jersey is cool - it produced Richie Sambora (Cant say Jon Bon Jovi - he's just too whiny these days) and Bruce Springstein...

And Giants stadium is quite cool - and the turnpike is in a Paul Simon song so it aint all bad!

I liked Jersey a few years ago when they let you smoke at rest stops. Helped dissipate some of the Jersey smell.

Now, not so much.

I think most big cities have their "New Jersey". We have East St. Louis/Brooklyn/Sauget (three towns all merged together) all just across the river. Nothing but pawn shops and strip clubs. Good Times

(there are obviously some extenuating (sp?) circumstances sometimes)
