The following Dodgers have been smited by the JDK for their crimes against Jam:
All the girls! for picking on the JDK and damaging his already delicate self esteem!
The Basserd Who Nicked Copper's Stuff For the offense of nicking Copper's stuff. You are a tw*t, whoever you are and we all hope you get run over by a tram in Nottingham. Or Liverpool. Or whereever else they have trams!
Copper For the crime of playing with her Wii instead of her Jammie pals!
Something along the lines of "we're really sorry for letting Douglas Adams approve the initial screenplay on which the movie was based", perhaps?
Frankly as a long-time and huge Hitchhikers fan, I thought they did an excellent job. Of course it would have been nice to see every single clever snippet of dialogue and exposition in there and believe me, I would have been happy to sit in the cinema for the 4 or 5 hours it would have taken. Given the constraints placed upon the movie makers in terms of running times and their oh-so-dumb target mainstream audience, I think the end product was great! A really enjoyable 2 hour movie. Most of the casting was good - I particularly liked Zaphod and I think they took the right decision to stray from the normal 2 headedness because frankly, it would have looked cack. The extra plot stuff was cool - and written in by Adams, I'll have you know.
I always find it mildly entertaining that when a book is adapted for the screen or a movie is remade or whatever, people just expect the same stuff again and again. It'd be no fun if every version of Hitchhikers was exactly the same as the original radio show that the books were based on.
Here's hoping the Restaurant At The End of the Universe comes our way soon!
As long as your reasons for disliking the movie go a little deeper than 'It wasn't word for word the same as the last 7 versions of it', I guess you're entitled to make sweeping statements like that!

Good to see I'm not the only one who thought it was excellent
It's not that I didn't think it was good - it's just that it felt so flat - like a good number of the jokes that make Hitchhikers what it is were either left out, or hacked apart so they weren't funny.
I don't blame the screenwriters, I don't blame the producers, or the director. I blame poor editing.
Yes it was cast well, yes it wasn't a total waste, no I didn't want it to be like all the other ones, no I didn't want a word for word adaptation of the book - however, if you're gonna START something - finish it.
I know I'm not the only one who noticed that - or who were annoyed by it.
So plllllllllllbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh :P
Hrm... I went to see it with a largeish group of friends. The lot that had read the book all really like it (me included) the people who hadnt read it though it was rubbish. Going on that I though the film failed because it didnt get new people to like the series... But for fans it was great!
Hmm. Funny. I know a couple of people who haven't read the book, but enjoyed the movie. Sadly, though, they haven't yet picked up the book, despite numerous loan offers from me!
