Hmm, I think they may be picking up on something the BBC mentioned a while back: racial tolerance should naturally be a matter of course, however multiculturalism, as opposed to integration, kind of leads to a partitioning of society & is believed by some (and the person pushing this theory in the article I read was Muslim) to be a bit of a breeding ground for extremists.  The suggestion isn't that we try & quash other cultures, but that all Brits should be part of the British culture, this doesn't stop them also being part of, for example, a Muslim culture.
