How I spent my summer.....

Just got back from a vacation to Maryland, Washington DC, and West Virginia.  Sailed on Chesapeake Bay on a 74 ft schooner.  The name is the Woodwind.  It is the boat used in the movie Wedding Crashers.  Very cool boat.  The blue crabs in the bay are very tasty.  Went to DC and saw where all the criminals work.

Spent a weekend in Indianapolis for my nephews wedding.  We emptied 4 kegs in 4 hours.  That beer sure tasted good.  Cold too!

Bought a new bass and amp.

My employer informed me that my job is being outsourced to India.  I will be done in October.

Well, that is what I have been up to.  Now I'm ready for another vacation.  biggrin

Well, at least you got to enjoy yourself without that hanging over you, but yep, that sucks. Hope you're getting something decent in the way of redundancy out of them? They should also give you reasonable time for job hunting, whether they like it or not!
I'm now into month four since redundancy. The first three were suprisingly enjoyable, but am soooo ready to be working again now. I've spent significant amounts of time on 't internet looking into all things redundancy & job hunt related, so give us a shout (here or by pm) if you've questions or rants.
Oh, and if it's all getting too much; I received this helpful email yesterday:

Just in case you are having a rough day (week, year, and life), here is a stress management technique recommended in all the latest psychological journals.

The funny thing is that it really does work and hopefully will make you smile.

1. Picture yourself lying on your stomach on a warm rock that hangs out over a crystal clear stream.

2. Picture yourself with both your hands dangling in the cool running water.

3. Birds are sweetly singing in the cool mountain air.

4. No one knows your secret place.

5. You are in total seclusion from that hectic place called the world.

6. The soothing sound of a gentle waterfall fills the air with a cascade of serenity.

7. The water is so crystal clear that you can easily make out the face of the person you are holding underwater

There!! See? It really does work. You're smiling already.

LOL! i knew where that was going and I still laughed.

Does someone you know own the Woodwind, or was it just a random encounter? I haven't been to DC since 5th grade when we went on a school trip down there. All I remember is sitting on the bus for a really long time and having to eat soggy sandwiches out of brown paper bags. I should probably go back. lol

Sorry to hear about the job... it's happening all over the place, and it sucks. At least you have time to look though, that's always better than just being tossed out.

Tough break on the job, Z...But you did get to enjoy a great vacation and I have confidence some lucky employer will know quality when he sees it and you'll soon be in Paycheck City again...smile.gif...Ben

Thanks for the kind words regarding my job everyone.  It will work out in the end.  And Sha...that did make me laugh.  Thank you for sharing that.  Yes, they do owe me full pay for 1 year and that will help.  The big problem is the end of my group medical insurance.  That really sucks.

No Darren, I did not get to that museum.  I wanted to see the spy museum and missed that also.  They have a pretty cool Segway tour of DC but it was full the day that I attended.

Aodan...just chance on the Woodwind.  I saw a story about it on the net, checked into it and found out that I could indeed take a cruise on it.  Very cool, but we almost ran over a 8 yr old girl in a trainer boat.  It was too close and very scary.

Ben, thanks for the encouragement.  I hope that you are correct!

It was way cool. And also awesome. It's a really well laid out museum. The Bond stuff was an added bonus, altthough I don't really recall that there was an awful lot of it.
