The following Dodgers have been smited by the JDK for their crimes against Jam:
All the girls! for picking on the JDK and damaging his already delicate self esteem!
The Basserd Who Nicked Copper's Stuff For the offense of nicking Copper's stuff. You are a tw*t, whoever you are and we all hope you get run over by a tram in Nottingham. Or Liverpool. Or whereever else they have trams!
Copper For the crime of playing with her Wii instead of her Jammie pals!
I used to have my own office - you know, one with a door and four walls and a window, (and a fire escape, but that was just lucky).
Sadly the company I work for has moved to new air conditioned open plan offices. (A/C has been good to me this last week)
As the more eagle eyed of you may have noticed my post count has dropped recently (from, oooh, at least 2 a day to about 0.2 a day) This is entirely due to open plan paranoia.
can anyone advise the proper etiquette for open plan personal internet usage?
In addition I have the complication that I am about half way up the management tree, which means I can both set a bad example and be looked on as a shirker by my team and bosses respectively.
I suggest you scroll down quickly, making sure the loud (and clearly non-work related) banner is out of view. Then adopt an air of keen concentration while staring at the posts. Draw your eyebrows together (AU4 in facial expression coding language, ahem) and perhaps even raise a hand to your chin in a meaningful pose. Only the true shirkers will identify this as shirking, and others will think you are reading something intensely boring and terribly important.
Personally, if there are people around, I simply untick the 'load images' checkbox in the advanced options menu. That way the page loads nice and inconspicuously - that way, the simple grey format of the page dos not attract the attention of any any casual passers by. Job done.
I've never had the luxury of working in my own office. I used to share one with my boss and another collegaue - that was a while ago. But apart from that, I've been subjected to open-plan all the way. there's probably good and bad things going for each of them. How have you found the change? Which do you prefer?
Incidentally - for anyone who cares, I had to make seven - yes seven - attempts to type the word 'untick' in the first paragraph above. Do you ever get those odd words that just won't type right, no matter how hard you try?
in my old job, my manager actually sat facing the screen of my computer - the worst day was when talking on aol instand messenger, kingbilly decided to say 'andy sucks' (the name of my boss) in really really big letters.. i think it was all downhill from that moment
