At the end of the day...

...is apparently the most irritating phrase in the English language.

With all due respect, to be honest I can't say that at, like this moment in time I find it particularly annoying, but there you go.  It's not rocket science.

Going forward, I think we should touch base and discuss, in blue sky fashion the verbal utterances that we find the most irritating.

One of my pet hates is the use of words like 'obviously', 'you know', the aforementioned 'like', 'right' and 'yeah' in the middle of sentences as fillers.  It's alright on an occasional basis, but some people use one (and it's usually the same one every time) every three of four words.

Grrrr.

I say like some times... I think.... I'm pritty sure I type it too!
Oppse....

I find dismisive terms very annoying because I like to know people are giving me there attention... stuff like 'Fair Enough' really annoys me.

Yeah, yeah.  Fair enough.

Is 'fair enough' dismissive?  I suppose it depends on how it's said.  I use 'Fair Doos', which is ozzie slang for the the same thing - but it's usually intended to show that I'm conceding a point.

Apparently I'm a master of dismissiveness.  Load of old tosh i say!

I have this friend called andy that uses 'fair enough' constently... it drives me up the wall saying anything remotly interesting to him and goes 'aye... fair enough'.. GRRR

People do it on-line all the time too.. its annoying.. you type out something exspecting a answer and they just type 'lol'. Drives me batty.. its not even anything funny.. they just use it as a dismisive thing.. may as well say 'what ever'

er... ok.. i'm all bitched out now

Using "Anyway" to start your next point in a letter.

I do this all the time and its a horrible habit I wish I could break myself of as it irks me when other people do it.

Yup.  I'm guilty of that!  See.  And here.  Oh.  And here too.

Sorry Jackie.

No worries - Like I said - I do it myself all the time.

I managed to get myself out of the "like" thing - but I have not yet removed the term "go" used for "said" in my normal conversations which drives my father batty. Ex...

Me: "So I go no way and he goes 'Yes Way!'"
Dad: "Where'd you go?"
Me: "GAH!"

Sounds like a great conversation.

So you said "No way,' and he said 'Yes way'... what happened next?

You might be right.

I use Fair Enough when it's time to move on. I use 'You might be right' when I'm pretty sure you're wrong.
