"God's guy says - Nick stuff ! "

OK - so I was kinda guessing what headline the Daily Mail might go for here as an idea for the thread title.

The lond and short of this guys argument is that the impoverished should pinch stuff from large shops like Tesco, because they can absorb the losses and pass the pain on to the rest of us -

I sort of see the logic in that then, we would all absorb the losses which is kinda like giving to charity - what do you guys think?

I think that's bullplop and if the church feels that strongly about it then it should dip into it's own massive, massive slush fund and help out the impoverished.

Or is he simply trying to get more people into confession?

That makes me sound very uncaring, it's not that ... it's just advising people to steal? Really? Where's the line?

I remember this one from school. Still had to look it up for the wording though.

Romans 13 1-7: "Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. Consequently, he who rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves. For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and he will commend you. For he is God's servant to do you good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword for nothing. He is God's servant, an agent of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer. Therefore, it is necessary to submit to the authorities, not only because of possible punishment but also because of conscience. This is also why you pay taxes, for the authorities are God's servants, who give their full time to governing. Give everyone what you owe him: If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then revenue; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor.”

Basically, Christians have to obey the law of the land, which put simply means: DON'T STEAL FROM TESCO OR YOU'LL GO TO HELL!!! (unless of course you go to confession...)

So what this chap is doing is what religious leaders have been doing througout the ages - reinterpret, rewrite and/or disregard bits of the bible to suit.
