The following Dodgers have been smited by the JDK for their crimes against Jam:
All the girls! for picking on the JDK and damaging his already delicate self esteem!
The Basserd Who Nicked Copper's Stuff For the offense of nicking Copper's stuff. You are a tw*t, whoever you are and we all hope you get run over by a tram in Nottingham. Or Liverpool. Or whereever else they have trams!
Copper For the crime of playing with her Wii instead of her Jammie pals!
So contends Steven Levitt, self styled rogue economist and writer of the book Freakonomics. As it happens, I'm going to London to meet him tomorrow, because he's taking time out of his book signing tour to talk to me and a few of my collegues.
And this is the thread in which I boast about it.
Seriously though, it's a pretty interesting book which I've just finished and it makes some pretty interesting points and posits some interesting theories about stuff and things, including the aforementioned drop in crime rates, the correllation of holidays and bagel theft and even gives parenting tips. I would recommend it to y'all. I also got given a free hardback of his new book 'Superfreakonomics' yesterday. I haven't read that one yet.
I think you should give me his books to read - you NEVER give me cool stuff to read or watch EVER and I think its a disgrace....
In return I will give you Catcher in the Rye (not what you'd expect) and a erm... tin of beans.
I suspect this guy has been 'analysing statistics' (or for our US friends Analyzing ztatiztix - ehum, sorry) and drawing conclusions - something that almost always points to the wrong conclusions but fun and crazy theories -
Note: I then spent a couple of minutes trying to think about some without using Google... it didnt work.
