The following Dodgers have been smited by the JDK for their crimes against Jam:
All the girls! for picking on the JDK and damaging his already delicate self esteem!
The Basserd Who Nicked Copper's Stuff For the offense of nicking Copper's stuff. You are a tw*t, whoever you are and we all hope you get run over by a tram in Nottingham. Or Liverpool. Or whereever else they have trams!
Copper For the crime of playing with her Wii instead of her Jammie pals!
Les Paul - a gifted musician, one of the fathers of electric guitar and the man who created multitrack recording techniques has died at 94. Most amazingly he was still playing live shows everyweek.
Every guitarist knows the Gibson Les Paul guitar and they know his impact on guitar design. He is less famous for having come up with the idea of putting an additional 'head' on a tape recorder enabling him to record himself playing and then to record himself playing over the top of it later on.
Its something we take for granted now, but at the time even Ampex (the guys who made the equipment he customised) were absolutely blown away by this idea and rightfully so.
Without Les, we'd still be recording a whole band in a room with one Microphone hanging from the ceiling in Mono - the man was a genius and without his invention, I simply couldnt work with music in the way that I do today.
Thanks Les - RIP

Gutted, absolutely gutted. Saddest thing is that the news will wash away by tomorrow. A jazz legend still relevant today and responsible for the way we are able to record today, as well as father of the modern electric guitar will disappear from the news by tomorrow tea time. At the same time an alledged paedophile who's done nothing of note in 20 years reaches week 7 of coverage.
Goodbye Les, I'll miss you and your music. May you live on forever through it. Rest in peace.
I wouldnt want to comment on who made a bigger impact on the art of music whether it be Michael Jackson or Les Paul - suffice to say in my opinion we have an enriched environment for both of them. I'm sad that both / either of them have died and I think we are at a loss because of their deaths.
I hope they both rest in peace and thank them for their contributions to an art form I love.

I'm no expert, but I suspect this is a case of apples and pears. I'd say that one made an impact on the music industry and the other on the alleged bottoms of allegedly small boys...
Seriously, though - from the looks of it, I'd say that Les Paul was hugely important in the development of modern music, while Michael Jackson just made some money off it. Okay, Jackson's probably the biggest selling musical act ever, but then Eastenders is the biggest selling Bristish soap ever. Doesn't mean much.
I can't believe you'd never heard of him! I know absolutely nothing about music & even I knew the bloke made one of the most lusted after guitars. This means you know less than nothing, negative knowledege.

I think you've got that the wrong. Les Paul did have a huge impact on music technology (guitars, recording) and some influence on music itself. He was a legend for that but its a difference influence to that which Jackson had.
MJ will be seen as a ground breaking songwriter and performer. Its worth looking over his back catalogue and understanding just what a huge collection of influential songs he wrote, arranged, recorded etc.
Throw in his influence on 'performers' also, and you're getting somewhere close to understanding it.
Its difficult to explain to non-musicians how important some of these guys are - you have to get past personal taste and stories in the press and look at their talent.
