Aw - but what about the little man in MS Word who checks all the spelling for us - won't we be overworking him a bit?

i have such trouble with these because i'm a synaesthete and see numbers and letters very differently to most people. if you move the letters of a word around, the colours change very much and i have to reorder them to understand the word. so the research never considered what people with synaesthesia might experience. never mind, you can't get everything right.

wow, does this mean that the perceived colour of a word or number is critical to your understanding of what the word actually means? - fascinating

Apologies for my ignorance, but how does actual word colour (i.e. type in black, blue yellow) affect the subsequent perception of the word colour?

I'd never heard of it either.  A quick google later and now I'm an expert!

More to the point, Santa, how difficult does it make it to cope with my nad splling?  Gah!  And smilies?  How do they look?

Here, Sam.  The word 'synaesthete' makes it sound like there should be an Olympic event for you!

We'll stop bothering you about it now!

I googled too, and am now slightly better educated about it.

Makes proper spelling even more important :)

i can spell brilliantly, but have terrible trouble with other things. it's almost like dyslexia in reverse. every letter has a different colour - i hear in colour, taste in colour and smell in colour. i have a very complicated form. glad i was able to introduce you to a new concept

there is an olympic event: spelling bees!

i have to provide spellings for everybody here at the unit.

So what does green sound like then?  Or, more accurately... what sounds like green?

God, I'm confused.
