Sunday: Super Mission

Supergroup Broadcast:  4 foot Santa and I are planning a monster TF mission on Sunday (before bank holiday Monday, so we don't want any bankers harping on about early starts).

So - who is with us?

Any thoughts on specific time or specific task force miss?

I would if I could think of a good reason to give the wife, how long does a TF take?

Tricky to say.  If we let Diode ban all chat and talk of costumes then we might get it done in 2hrs.  Otherwise I would suggest leaving a good 3hrs+ free...

3hrs+, huh?  Given our performance the other night on the Respec mission, I'd suggest 5+.

On the other hand, with Halo & Lite on board we might manage to stay alive for more than 2 minutes at a time!

Bagsie my own dedicated healer!

Late afternoon/early evening would be good for me.  That way we can play and play and play.

er.

Are we sad?

Kilts? - more bored board gender bending - hussah!

Count me in for some superhero action

PS this all depends on Copper and I sourcing a router and being technically minded enough to manage to plug it all in and get it working, so both our 'puters work at my gaff.

Note: the above is a big caveat, so if anyones got any pearls of wisdom please do share.

Here.  Me!  I have a router...

...but I'm kinda using it...

Are you planning on buying borrowing or stealing?

borrowing, stealing, buying, in that order.

the big pro with buying is that it is likely to come with some sort of manual, which could be kinda handy. I was hoping my resident techy mate (also called Darren - spooky huh?) would be avaliable for setup, but unfortunately he's gone to Disneyworld (27 years old....)

You could always bring your router to mine if the car will make it?

heh, I love it when threads come together

And I would... if the damn thing was taxed.  but it ain't.  So I can't.

A decent router'll set you back... £60-£70.  Unless you want to go wireless in which case it'll be about £100.  But a wired one should be pretty easy to set up.  There's loadsa stuff on the interweb about it!

I have sourced two network/patch cables.

But the techs don't have a router...

Kilts - gender bending grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr Kilts are not skirts

BTW if you get a router does your ISP have two external IP addresses for you to use or does COH allow more than one connection from one IP address?

No idea.

I guess it will be ok..because you can log in at any CoH puter with your username, so the log in is not specific to the ip address.  Implying you can use the connection for more than one log in at any one time.  Would that be right?

not sure I'd check their website! logging on to your account from a different computer isn't the same as running the game from two pc's using the same IP address, it may be allowed but I am sure other online games don't allow this due to cheating (muling etc)

I think you may need 2 static external IP addresses. You would then have to NAT (Network Address Translation) your local PC IP addresses or setup routing tables with you local addresses on different Vlans.

If that sounds to complicated just plug it all in and see if it works, you never know

Juts had a look in the tech forrums at CoH.com and it looks like (in theory at least) you should be able to do it.  Lots of people refer to running 2 or more PCs through a router - although it looks like people often experience problems with the setup.

Good luck!

Ok, now I must ask...

WTF is all this talk about superhero action, missions, etc... Is this some sort of multiplayer game or are you all talking in a secret code language??? I don't understand.

So.  We failed.  Despite accumulating vast quantities of xp, we died lots trying to defeat the super-baddie (tough super-bitch) and hardly bruised her.

I, however, have thoughts on what might work.  Note, I am not suggesting we do try againJust discussing tactics.

Controllers.  Pin the evil super-witch and drain her end.  Do lots of nasty things to her that only controllers can do.  Then let the blasters blast her.

Just a thought.

nice idea copp! If you could find another healer i could use Ik to do that.

Its -very- hard to acaully hold a boss.. let alone a arch-villan. So i couldnt do that.. i could slow her down a hell of alot though and make a earthquake under her feet so she keeps getting knocked over ;)

Dont give up guys! We gota try it again, and terra volta!

Well keep me posted, sorry I missed the fun.

I have fiddled with respec so have now correctly slotted Recover Aura with six slots and have taken haste instead of the leadership attack. I just need a lot of influence to buy the right enhancemets for my healing slots and to finish of Recovery Aura (thinking I can get it to be charged before the effect runs out, meaning no more running out of end!)

I think we should probably have another go at some point - but you're right cop - a bigger team and some controllers would be useful -

I have had another, wildly exciting, thought.

When both Lite and I logged on yesterday we were still part of the task force.

As we are all hard-working adults (and tax playing I might add, stipends ARE subject to tax in a roundabout sort of way, mumble mumble), this indicates we could start the tf one day (even a school night...) and complete on subsequent days.  Would take much planning and some communication (don't shudder Diode, not emotional communication...), but it is a plausible and perhaps less onerous suggestion.

Any thoughts super-chums?

Indeed...

Another thing to test is the possibility of trading with non Task Force players for Inspirations, since we can't buy em mid-mission.  Big problem, that.
