Who fancies a challenge?

So my wretched company, not content with destroying my pension, my nest egg of shares and my firms good name by buying the biggest pile of old knackers in the history of corporate takeovers has now decided to start charging me for personal phone calls on my work mobile. Why do I care? because the contract we have with the network is designed to be cheap when we phone other staff, and consequently very expensive for all other calls.

So I need a personal mobile and I'd like you guys to help me choose one -

I'm gonna need

A good camera - that also takes video with sound
The proper internet so I can download porn and check personal emails at work
A cool screen
lots of minutes and texts per month
and I dont want to spend more than £20pm on a contract

Think you're up to it? show me whatchya got, baby!

Virgin do 300 texts & 300 minutes with a free phone (mine has camera & video with sound) for £20 per month (18 month contract).  Only downside is they charge you 30p for every day you access the internet, although you can access the internet as much as you like on any one day for the one 30p charge.

If you'd only use the internet connection to check email you could always get round the 30p daily charge by setting up an auto forward rule to send new items to your work email address.

It was the best deal around when I took my new phone about 6 months ago and it's still pretty competitive.

aww

Not if you want the phone free.

However, on t-mobile you can get the Samsung G600 (free, 5 Megajobbers with video cam with flash, downside, only 512Kb of memory but does have microSD slot) with 200 minutes, 400 texts and all the interweb you want (on a combi package, £15 with out the internet).

It's a couple of years out of date ... but easily as good as my N95 really.

Or, Orange do the Nokia 5800 with 200 minutes and unlimited texts for £20 a month if done online. The one gives you 3.2 Megapixel camera, MicroSD, GPS, Internal memory 80Mb and video. But the phone'll cost you £120 :) ... Or free if you go to £25 a month which also doubles your minutes.

There's loads out there for the money tariff wise, but not if you want the toys and tings. From what I've seen around the Samsung seems the closet match, it was Mobile Choice in '07 apparantly. Can't really vouch for the quality though as I've never used one.

If you can pick up a decent deal on a second hand phone, it means you can negotiate pretty much whatever deal you want on the network package.

You may be able to pick up an unlocked HTC TYTN on ebay for a decent price, otherwise known as an MDA Vario 2 or a Kaiser. It's a couple of iterations out of date, being the phone I had before the phone I had before the phone I have now. It has all the functions you need with a slide out keyboard and a touch screen with handwriting recognition. A little chunky, though.

The TYTN II (Kaiser Tilt) - the last phone I had has all the same functions plus a hinge and GPS (and I even still have the tomtom software around for it). Again, a little chunky.

You could also look at some of the Blackberries from a couple of years ago or the Sony Ericsson P series (although I switched from them a while ago because they were a bit underpowered).

My current phone is much more awesome. You know how I like my gadgets.

Whichever way you go, I suspect that in order to get all the features you want you're either gonna have to fork out £100 or so up front or take the hit on the package.

So, let me get this straight; you can't be arsed to hunt for the best deal, & so want us to do it for you?

I'm giving you the opportunity to be involved in my awesome life - if only for a little while - you should be grateful! (Drone!)

Sorry about the Drone thing by the way... ashamed
