The following Dodgers have been smited by the JDK for their crimes against Jam:
All the girls! for picking on the JDK and damaging his already delicate self esteem!
The Basserd Who Nicked Copper's Stuff For the offense of nicking Copper's stuff. You are a tw*t, whoever you are and we all hope you get run over by a tram in Nottingham. Or Liverpool. Or whereever else they have trams!
Copper For the crime of playing with her Wii instead of her Jammie pals!
Yeah, I went ahead and started the new year with Office Space, which I've been meaning to see for a while, and noticed was on this week.
I laughed quite a lot. I did notice that they'd nicked Dave from our film, took his beard off and gimped him up a bit - bloody copycats! There were some nicely quotable bits during it as well. The depiction of the office - particularly of middle management was entertainingly accurate, although the computer systems and the cunning scheme they cook up during the film (which I won't give away) were horribly out-dated (it was made in 1999.
I'd compare this to the first Clerks film - not quite as outrageous and perhaps not as memorable, but it's one of those nicely scripted, low tech films that creates a good atmosphere as you're watching it. Jennifer Aniston is not too irritating in it and actually gets one of the best lines in the film as she shows her boss her... um... 'flair'.
I think It'll probably be awful, but I have to confess to a morbid curiosity to find out what happens when you let an egotistical hack like Frank Miller make his own movie!
I watched "You Don't Mess with The Zohan". I am not generally a fan of Sandler films as they all tend to be the same movie with a slightly different plot.. but this one made me laugh out loud a few times.
I got my monthly shipment of DVD's from Amazon today...So this evening I watched the original cut of "Battle of the Bulge" (1965)...This version includes all the scenes that were deleted from the later TV version that made the Nazis look evil and heartless and not like the true humanitarians that they really were...I hate "sanitized" movies that try to re-write history to fit the ideals of some starry-eyed nincompoop in Hollywood whose closest encounter with violence is fending off a panhandler trying to survive starvation...I'll shut up now and go back to my black-and-white world of real actors...
Next week is a Stoogathon as I open the four box set of everything Moe, Larry and Curly did from 1934 to 1945...Nyuk, nyuk, nyuk...Soitenly!......Ben

I watched "Badman" again last night (including the bonus features) after the Stoogathon ended...I find that I'm actually understanding more and more of the dialogue...That means that A.) My hearing is improving (not likely) or B.) I've been spending so much time on this forum that I'm starting to pick up some of the British lingo...
Which do you think it is?......Ben

I watched Step Brothers last night (It was kevin's idea). It did have some "oh my god did they really just do that" moments..and a couple of laughs.. but overall I wish I could get those 90 minutes back..
I tried (I mean really tried) to sit through Letters from Iwo jima over the weekend - a 2006 Clint Eastwood directed movie about the battle of Iwo jima from the Japanese point of view. I couldnt finish it because it was WAY to long -
It was pretty in places, it communicated the plight of the Japanese quite well (the guys on the ground conned into fighting the war) and so on - but it just dragged and dragged so I stuck to fingers up to it and switched it off. I'd skip it.

Last night I watched "Patton" and although it's in color, it remains one of my favorite war movies...Nobody else will ever come close to George C. Scott in his brilliant portrayal of a brilliant leader...
The night before, I watched "Casino" again with Robert DeNiro in the lead role...As in most movies he's in, Joe Pesci stole the show...It's a little long but always entertaining...Of course, I'll watch anything Don rickles is in...Come to think of it, I may watch "Kelly's Heroes" tonight...Ben

Saw Coraline (Neil Gaiman's story) in the theater the other day. I really enjoyed the book, and the movie was good.. not terrific, but definitely enjoyable.
Watched Tropic Thunder last night... it was goofy, but I liked it well enough.
I can't really compare it to Stardust or Mirrormask because stylistically it's a completely different type of film.
It was visually stunning, but the story felt a wee bit flat (which I have found with most film adaptations of Gaiman's books). The book was definitely better in that regard.. it was kind of slow and the resolution felt a little rushed, but if you like the visual styling of Nightmare Before Christmas, you'll enjoy this. I didn't see it in 3-D because that sometimes gives me a wicked headache, but since it was filmed to be seen that way, you should try to see it that way if you're able.
I definitely recommend it... didn't have a drop of movie goer's remorse.
Sweet. It'll give me an NG fix before someone buys me the Absolute Sandman Volume 4 for my birthday in a couple of weeks. (ahem)
Back on the subject of movies I've seen, Catfish made me watch The Breakfast Club over the weekend, which had somehow passed me by until now. It's one of those 'classic' movies like Ferris Bueller's Day Off which everyone gets excited about but as with that movies, I couldn't really see what the fuss was about. It had a couple of really funny moments but was mostly a bit like watching an episode of Hollyoaks. Yawn.
Also, I started to watch Aliens Vs Predator: Requiem which was shit and I turned it off after about 25 minutes. The franchise had such potential!
I will admit, I have pleasant memories of all of those movies... Breakfast Club, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Sixteen Candles, Pretty in Pink, Weird Science...
I don't generally seek them out, but I have a hard time flipping the channel when they come on ;)
I forgot to mention, mosty because I'm trying to wipe the memory from my head, we watched Max Payne the other day...
It was so horrible (as most video game adaptations are, unfortunately). I tried to overload the circuits by watching something even more hideous (End of Days with Arnold Schwarzenegger) but the two just mingled in my mind to form one huge violent piece of crap.

It would seem that I'm not. I didn't really like Weird Science either and although I haven't seen 'em, the other two have dangerously chicky titles!

The cure for your terrible mental affliction is to go and see Watchmen on the day it comes out.
Last night I had the pleasure of watching Planet Terror. This was one of a pair of faux-grindhouse flicks that Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez collaborated on. Tarantino's effort, Death Proof was rubbish. Planet Terror, by Rodriguez was a little piece of bloody, gory, camp, cliche-ridden zombie genius! It also had explosions. Really big ones - often for no reason at all!
The dialogue was awful. Some of the acting was awful and a lot of the editing was awful... but that was the whole point. I found myself cheering when the zombies exploded in glorious splashes of gore (apparently you become splashy when you turn into a zombie) every time they were shot. And the bit where Rose McGowan's boyfriend attached a machine gun to the stump of her missing leg (torn off and eaten by zombies earlier in the movie), allowing her to embark on an acrobatic zombie killing spree was one of the finest moments of cinema history EVER!
This is not Pride and Prejudice*. It's AWESOME!
*I am of the firm belief that Pride and Prejudice would be vastly improved by the introduction of a zombie horde about 20 minutes in...
I watched Vanilla Sky today, a 2000 romantic thriller with Tom Cruise and others.
Overall a solid 8/10 - nice idea for a story and the makeup was pretty sound. Overall the performances were top notch with the exception of Jason Lee who unfortunately looked like a TV actor, out of his league - but thankfully his part was small so it didnt really matter.
It's worth a watch!

I think this movie just pushed it's way into my top 10. Sean Connery as "Zed" in a red diaper thing and from what I can tell half of the movie had something to do with Zed's erections, the other half has to do with killing people.
The first 10 minutes are genius.
A big stone head vomits guns all over a crowd of red diaper and mask wearing revelers and declares:
"The Gun Is Good. The Penis Is Evil."
Made even better is that through most of this film, Mr. Connery wears a face that suggests even he understands just how insane this whole thing is. Watch for it in the erection discussion scene.
