My Tribute to Joe Calzaghe

As some of you may know, Joe Calzaghe one of our greatest boxers of all time ventured over the pond this weekend to try to do to Roy Jones Jnr what he did to a lacklustre Bernard Hopkins a few months ago.

Everyone (including me - I'll admit) worried this was a step too far for Joe. In the past he's always had an angle to win a fight. He was either younger, faster, more technical or on home turf - always something to give him the edge. That along with his previous reluctance to fight outside of the UK and the individual Super Middleweight champions deciding not to fight each other for years - led us to believe that he's, just possibly, not as great as he thought.

But against a 39 year Jones, still very much a great fighter (see how he schooled Felix Trinidad recently for proof) Joe put on a performance that looked like it had been ripped off the pages of a Rocky movie.

Down in the first round, he promptly 'woke' up before doing to Jones what he had done to Jeff Lacey and Hopkins before him. His speed and accuracy is phenomenal - the way he destroyed Jones's confidence (as well as his left eye) in the ring was amazing and the massive points difference at the end from all 3 judges told the same story - he simply is pound for pound probably the best active fighter in the world today - thanks Joe - you made us (and especially Hengle) very proud!

Give us one more - in Cardiff - you deserve a big money pay day retirement fight! :)

It was awesome - despite having to watch it the next day due to it being on in the early hours. It wouldnt have been like that if we still had the empire - GMT would reign in the USA and quite right too wink.gif

Yes, and we'd still be able to use poor people as servants.  I could have had my very own maidservant...

To be fair we can still do that - as long as you dont mind them having Polish or Albanian or Welsh as their first language...

As long as they learn my language in my country and be prepared to converse with me in it.

I'm not even bothered about that - as long as they empty the bins and call me Sir, I'm happy
