A thread about TV

I know it's fashionable to moan about all the crap that's on TV at the moment - reality shows, property shows, makeover shows and so on, but actually, I've been finding that there's loads of great TV on as well! Some of it takes some finding, but it's there all the same!

So here's my favourite couple of shows at the moment:

Chuck - this was on earlier in the year but I've only just got round to watching it - almost finished the first season and really looking forward to the next one. This show is great, despite it's implausible premise that a shop assistant gets the entire contents of a CIA/NSA intelligence database downloaded into his brain. Adam Baldwin gets all the best lines.

Dexter - A few episodes into season 2 and it's still one of the best shows I've seen for years! A Maimi forensic detective who is also a serial killer! It's much better then it sounds and FX broadcast it in glorious HD!

Bonekickers - Awesome new BBC series about archaeologists having adven... No. I'm just kidding. It's rubbish!

Anyone else got any favourite shows they'd like to share?

Blimey, you had me scared there! Bonekickers is throughly wretched - but hey ho.

Now, the new series of the Tudors starts tonight - season 1 was cool !

I always find it amusing how our seasons swap.

The 2nd Season of The Tudors ended here quite some time ago. (Fantastic season, I will say no more)

But the 2nd Season of BBC's Robin Hood is just wrapping here (tomorrow is the finale) and the same with Doctor Who. I have to avoid the internets because all of the information on those shows is already out there. I hate spoilers.

Spaced was impossible to find over here unless I wanted to pay for a recoded DVD burn... no thanks.. BBC-A finally started playing it and they just released them on DVD here as well.

Other than those shows, Stargate Atlantis and Eureka are the only shows I really watch.

Oh, Shaz ain't gonna be pleased with your mention of Doctor Who. I've already be lambasted today for bringing it up! The fourth season finished here a few weeks ago and was very enjoyable. Lots of really strong episodes!

I didn't watch Robin Hood after the first 3 or 4 episodes. I hated it!

Now, Spaced is possibly the awesomest, funniest and coolest sit-com ever made. And that was about 8 years ago. If you're only just seeing it for the first time in the States, then I envy you! I assume you've seen Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz.

If you liked Spaced, keep an eye out for Green Wing. Not as geeky, but just as funny and quite similar in tone and style.

I thought I was going to hate Robin Hood... and for some reason, I got snagged. Its Keith Allen's doing really. I think he's fantastic..and kind of reminds me of my dad a little bit.. but for reasons I can't really work out lol

Ever since seeing SotD I'd been hearing about Spaced, but I just wasn't willing or able to pony up that kind of money to have it sent here. (I did that once with a movie I had to own... and after all of the hassle and expense of getting the copy... they released it here the next year... very irritating)

I especially love Spaced because that's my people lol. I know at least one person that fits each of the character models :)

Chuck is a good show too, but I have to wait for it to come out on DVD in September I think. I caught a few episodes on the SciFi channel when they were running them, but they didn't show them all.

Yes, all I seem to watch are BBC-A and the SciFi channel... and Noggin. oof.

And to think that all you had to do was ask me!

What movie was it that you had to own but could only get here?

At the risk of being laughed at..the movie was Nora.  I had read the book in the middle of an all things James Joyce obsession (must watch myself lest it happen again) and the movie was unavailable here..so I had to order it...and paid way too much

Dexter is fantastic, not seen Chuck yet.

I really enjoy Bonekickers ... and you know why? BECAUSE it is so bloody rubbish ... it's geniusly rubbish, truly astoundingly so. I love it. And every episode seems to end "oh dear, we've destroyed another, irreplacable artifact. Oh well ... pub?"

GEE-KNEE-US

Can't say I'm passionate about any TV shows that are on at the moment, although I am looking forward to trying Tudors (missed the first season and kicked myself for it).

Green Wing was just the best though, wasn't it? - Alan's bare bum shuffle on Lyndon's desk gets me every time!  rofl.gif

Ahhh... the genius of Alan Statham

If you wanna see the first season of the Tudors, get yer ass over to my house and watch my lovely HD Blu Ray copy! Or buy yourself a blu-ray player and take it home!
