talk about luck

A New York man retired. He wanted to use his retirement money wisely, so it would last, and decided to buy a home and a few acres in Portugal. The modest farmhouse had been vacant for 15 years; the owner and wife both had died, and there were no heirs.

The house was sold to pay taxes.

There had been several lookers, but the large barn had steel doors, and they had been welded shut. Nobody wanted to go to the extra expense to see what was in the barn, and it wasn't complimentary to the property anyway... so, nobody made an offer on the place.

The NY guy bought it at just over half of the property's worth; moved in, and set about to tear in to the barn - curiosity was killing him. So, he and his wife bought a generator and a couple of grinders... and cut thru the welds.

Wow! Has to be said that a sealed barn would make me more likely to buy a place, not put me off. Does no-one have any curiosity anymore?

I would have been afraid something bad.. very bad.. was lurking behind those doors.. why else seal it? I mean, now I know it could be filled with cars. Lots, and lots of cars...

But at first glance I had all sorts of nightmare scenarios ...

They may well be right on this item but I have my suspicions about snopes - its simply run by 2 people who seem to be self regulating and if you read their page describing what they do, they even get a bit ancy with themselves on their FAQs page about whether what THEY post is always accurate. I wonder if there is a hidden agenda or at least a bias - in other words, once they've found some 'evidence' to debunk a legend they go to print and because they are an accepted resource, they wield unchecked power.

I wish there was a more robust and idependent resource for myths and urben legends on the net than this...
