The following Dodgers have been smited by the JDK for their crimes against Jam:
All the girls! for picking on the JDK and damaging his already delicate self esteem!
The Basserd Who Nicked Copper's Stuff For the offense of nicking Copper's stuff. You are a tw*t, whoever you are and we all hope you get run over by a tram in Nottingham. Or Liverpool. Or whereever else they have trams!
Copper For the crime of playing with her Wii instead of her Jammie pals!
I actually quite like the Ang Lee one - although it would be improved without the mutant poodles.
The new one was okay. I don't recall any problems with the CGI or the acting, but I'm with you on the plot - but then how much plot can you expect from a giant snot coloured monster.
As for Liv Tyler - I seem to recall think when I saw it that she wasn't looking her best.
I picked up the dvd of this yesterday for some reason.
Last night, Catfish and I watched The Kingdom starring Jamie Foxx and that bird from Alias and Daredevil. It's about an FBI team that travels to Saudi Arabia to investigate the massacre of American oil workers by Saudi terrorists.
Bloody great movie that was. It couldn't decide whether to be a political thriller or an action movie, so it did a bit of both to excellent effect. Some really nice performances from the lead actors - in particular the Saudi Police captain who helps the FBI team. It did require some West Wing levels of concentration to follow what was going on in places, which makes a nice change from movies that s-p-e-l-l e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g o-u-t so that the viewer doesn't have to think about it!
ddvmor wrote:Also, today I saw Shoot Em Up with Clive Owen, and the always excellent Paul Giamatti. It was very silly with lots of carrot induced killings but lots of fun.
Finally got round to seeing this myself today - you're right in that its silly but it is also a lot of fun and I thought the direction was ace. Made me laugh (mostly at the silliness) several times - definately a good watch!

Well what can I say? The fact it had Johnny Depp in it was one of the only good things about it. Very disappointing I'm afraid... I stayed awake because I wanted to know how it would all turn out, but I probably should have fallen asleep with the JDK as the ending was just like they ran out of budget or something
I just went to the Wikipedia article for the film and I found this little gem of a comment, which I think describes it perfectly
Elvis Mitchell in The New York Times criticized the film for being "about as scary as a sock-puppet re-enactment of The Blair Witch Project, and not nearly as funny."
After much computer wrangling I got the disk to work on my computer and I FINALLY got to see Badman.
Loved it ;)
Although, I will admit that I was worried it was going to be what you had started to make it look like.. and I was groaning a little.. but no! It ended just the way I'd hoped it would :)
And Stead, you'll be pleased to know I wanted to poke you in the eye the entire time... jerk. ;)
Watching the DVD extras now...always my fave bit :)
OK so over the last few days, I've been watching (in bits) Judge Dread which happened to be on the tv and I hadnt seen it. Mostly because the reviews I'd read in the past slated it and as I understand it the spotty comicon fans didnt like it much - but, not knowing anything about the character before hand I pretty much enjoyed it. Yes its cheesy. Yes its silly and Yes its not one of Stallones better performances but I still thought it quite watchable.
So there -

I used to read 2000AD (the comic in which Judge Dredd starred) regularly as a kid and early teen. I occasionally pick it up now. Dredd was an awesome comic. The movie, while not awsome, is one of my guilty pleasures and I've always enjoyed watching it. Especially for Mean Angel and the ABC Warrior (you have to be a longtime fan to get the references).
Did you know that the makers of Robocop were heavily influenced by Dredd - hence the design of the mask and the constant spouting of Dredd-isms; "Your move, creep" and so-on. Fortunately, Murphy never felt the need to shout "I AM THE LOO!"
rich and delicious..oh wait.. are we talking about chocolate or Mr. Depp? I actually made myself a cup of spicy hot cocoa while watching cuz I got a taste for it...
Then I remembered that I am not terribly fond of chocolate in any quantity above the size of say a Hershey's kiss or two...I do like the idea of chocolate... spicy chocolate especially... but my stomach felt off for the remainder of the afternoon.
Gothika. I bought Catfish this one for her birtrhday but sadly I fell asleep about half way through it. Halle Berry jumped into a swimming pool fully clothed but I don't feel that the film-makers made the best of the the scene...
What I saw of it though was quite atmospheric. Halle Berry seemed to be putting in a decent performance - the only thing I've seen her acting well in (I haven't seen Monster's Ball the one she won the Oscar for) and I can't say I've ever seen Penelope Cruz looking quite that rough. Oh... and Robert Downey Junior mumbled a lot.
Catfish and I went to see the new Bond movie 'Quantum of Solace' on Friday. It was very cool. Lots of action. Lots of Bond being cool. Good performances from everyone concerned. Excellent action sequences. What more do you need from a Bond movie?
It was pretty much the same stuff as Casino Royale, so you know what you're getting from the beginning - it's more like a continuation of that movie than a whole new movie. All in all, I think I preferred Casino Royale, but not because of any failing in Quantum.
Over a couple of sittings last week I saw Pan's Labyrinth.
I've never watched a Spanish film before - I don't normally like reading my way through a film, but I thought I vaguely remembered Darren recommending it once a long time ago so I tried it and was rewarded in heaps.
Disarmingly bleak and severe in the reality scenes, whilst being touchingly sweet yet edgy in the escapism scenes - a strange blend of a war film and a fairly tale.
Can't tell you whether it has a happy ending or not cos that would spoil it, but revenge surely is sweet.
Subtitles are an acquited taste, but it's infinitely better than suffering mismatched voice-overs! I've watched so many foreign films over the years that I barely notice the subtitles.
Pans Labyrinth was quite good... I agree with Susan's review though... I wasn't really expecting the really bleak war parts... and the end surprised me.
Finally got around to watching Son of Rambow - I really enjoyed it. It was touching, and the fantasy scenes made me giggle. I had no idea those were the guys that did Hitchhiker's though (which I found out from watching the DVD extras lol)
I also sat through 3/4 of The Italian Job .. Kevin was watching it and I walked in after he'd started it already. Predictably crap... there was nothing original or interesting about that one at all.
I watched "Dillinger" again last night...Anything with both Ben Johnson and Warren Oates in it has to be great...This was no exception...To see them again, watch "The Wild Bunch"......Ben

I saw Big Nothing the other night on DVD - you may have never heard of it - if so, there's a good reason for that - its not very good.
Simon Pegg (putting on the worst and most variable US accent in movie history) and David Shhhhhhhwimmer star in this caper comedy which centres around an unbelievable caper and isnt very funny. Which to be honest, doesnt leave it much left to play with.
The ending doesnt make sense and the script is predictable - Jean-Baptiste Andrea who wrote and directed should probably be tied up until he promises not to make any more films. Right now he's making 'Hellphone' - about a teenage boy addicted to his phone... genius....

This was on the netflix play online thing.. so I figured why the hell not.
I sat down for 'In Bruge' today - a gangland caper with a difference. It had some very inappropriate and therefore funny moments in it and I'd recommend it just for the individual performances. The direction was also superb in places and - particularly around comic timing - very cool

There you go. Go and see it!
I took Cian to see QoS yesterday afternoon. I'm kind of a new Bond girl - I don't particularly like the old films, but the new ones are watchable.
The actions scenes were a little too quickly cut for my liking - made me feel a little dizzy watching them. I agree with D, it's definitely a two-parter.
Of course she's playing the same character she did in As Time Goes By, Shakespeare in Love, Mrs Brown, The Importance of Being Earnest, A Room with a View...
I also forgot to mention that I saw 'Ali' a little while back. Its a Michael Mann film and as you guys may know, he forgot how to make a bad movie some time ago - he also made
The life of David Gale - simply brilliant - must get myself that on DVD Collateral - with Tom Cruise - very cool
and of course
The Last of The Mohicans which is a classic. he has a real feel for how the soundtrack impacts a film which is brilliant from my point of view and Ali didnt disappoint. Will Smiths performance was outstanding - his portrayel was spot on and it was well worth the watch. Oddly, and I dont normally say this about biopics, it could have done with being 30 mins longer!
Go get it and watch it then run down the street shadow boxing...
