The following Dodgers have been smited by the JDK for their crimes against Jam:
All the girls! for picking on the JDK and damaging his already delicate self esteem!
The Basserd Who Nicked Copper's Stuff For the offense of nicking Copper's stuff. You are a tw*t, whoever you are and we all hope you get run over by a tram in Nottingham. Or Liverpool. Or whereever else they have trams!
Copper For the crime of playing with her Wii instead of her Jammie pals!
I don't know what you mean. Take a winning formula. Strip out all the stuff that makes it popular, dumb it down a bit so it will appeal to that younger crowd (who are obviously dumber than the older crowd) and that automatically means you'll have another winning formula!
We need a "sobbing piteously into my oatmeal" emoticon. just doesn't cover it.
Well I watched Son of Rambow yesterday (ta to the JDK for getting me a copy!) and I was really quite impressed. I turned it on expecting to switch it off 15 minutes in, but no!
The scenes were well put together - the director had a real eye for sets/lighting and comic timing. The performances from the various kids in the film were really pretty good and the visuals had excellent variety. Clearly the Director wasnt afraid to push boundaries a little taking some scenes off in bizarre directions.
The music was kinda weird though - it swung from overly dramatic orchestral pieces to 1980's cheesy pop (its set in the 80's) - I dont think they ever really settled on a style - but thats a small complaint about a film which overall I recommend you settle down and watch on DVD.

So last night, after a 4 hr trip home from work (the joy of going to London!) I decided to crash out and watch The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Howard -
Bradd Pitt starred and performed very well but I thought the great performances were turned out by the supporting cast, Sam Rockwell and Casey Affleck in particular.
The film did a great job of de-glamourising the life of JJ and showed the true harshness of the times. The style of narration was entertaining too and so I recommend this one for a winters night with the heating on, plenty of nibbles (it goes on a bit) and something hot to drink.
Very cool

Hellboy 2 was good last night. Very pretty. Some very cool creatures and one of the guys from Bros was the bad guy - he gave a particularly good performance, all things considered. Usually ex singers in movies are a bad idea...
I also watched Robocop in HD the other day. That was cool.

Hmm. We should put this theory to the test. Can you name 5 commercially released movies where a 'current' (i.e. at the time the film was released) singer was an actual asset to the movie?

Any Elvis Presley movie...Ben

I was gonna post his truly awesomeful rendition of 'Common People', but for some reason all I can find are crappy 'music videos' that people have made with clips of star trek and other shite. Shame. (admittedly, I only looked for about 12 seconds...)
Not technically a movie, but yesterday I saw the recent stage version of Geoff Wayne's War of the Worlds on the telly. It was very entertaining and the great big tripod that appeared on stage was quite cool.
Also, today I saw Shoot Em Up with Clive Owen, and the always excellent Paul Giamatti. It was very silly with lots of carrot induced killings but lots of fun.
I watched "The other Boleyn Girl" last night - it was basically the first 2 seasons of the Tudors condensed into 2 hours and I have to be honest, it felt rushed and with the Tudors out there I was left wondering why they bothered really.
But it was slick enough...

Better? Not really... it had the typical action scenes, with the rally speech given on horseback in the war growl leader voice, the blood spattering fight scenes, and umm yeah.. it was pretty much exactly what I thought it would be.
