What could possibly go wrong?

Quite a lot as it happened. The script was rubbish andthe acting was worse. I do however, still recommend watching it as the huge showdown between the US Army and the Dragon Army in downtown LA was bloody great! The special effects weren't quite top notch, but not bad considering a relatively small budget (about half the budget of each of the Star Wars prequels). It was just cool.

Tried it tonight with a mate - just so awful. Skipped to the end to watch some of the effects etc - nice for the budget but didnt capture my attention so we switched it off and watched Rambo - second time for my friend, 3rd time for me and still a good watch.

I recently watched 'A night at the museum' which was on my rental list. Being a Ben Stiller and friends film I expected it to be hideous but actually, it wasnt too bad - worth watching if you're bored and have nothing else to watch. Done expect any surprises - but you'll admire how well they presented it.

I just bought the DVD of "No Country For Old Men" today at Sam's...Should be a good'un...idea...Ben

Edit: Boy was I wrong...A complete waste of $18.88 and however much of my life that I wasted and can't get back...The most unsatisfying ending of any movie I have ever seen...It's as if the point was to create some very interesting characters and weave them into an intriguing story then break for lunch and don't bother coming back to finish the film...Don't bother...Three thumbs down...

That's why I bought it...The TV commercials made it look like it was solid action...And it was until the part where they forgot to film the ending...confused...Ben

It's a Coen brothers movie, isn't it? They of The Big Lebowski and Fargo and other cinematic classics. Maybe the omission of the ending was darkly ironic...

Or maybe they just forgot it...

I never heard of them before but I'm not a great follower of Hollywood types...I've seen "Fargo" and thought it was a pretty good movie...I never heard of the "Lebowski" show either...

I don't get out much...confused...Ben

The Big Lebowski

It's been around for years so you should be able to pick it up for next to nothing. Jeff Bridges and John Goodman (who is at his absolute best in this one). Very funny. Very cool.

Bullitt

Amazingly, I'd never seen this film, which is hailed as a classic and one of the all time greats.

I can kinda see why, even though by today's standards, the pacing is way too slow and the famous car chase is quite sedate and involves much speeded up footage of people driving round corners and the same green VW Beetle in about 3 different places!

The Mighty Mr McQueen in very very cool in it, although it's difficult to explain why as he pretty much bumbles his way around the movie generally cocking stuff up right left and centre (kinda reminded me of Bond in Goldfinger in that respect) and not doing what he's told. Lots of long uncomfortable silences, too.

And it had the Man From UNCLE in it, which is always nice.

I thought it was great. I don't believe Stead has the same opinion.

Yes, "Bullitt" is one of my all time favorites even though the Dodge Charger lost six hubcaps from its four wheels in the chase scene... I got to see it in a movie theater when it first came out; that's where you get the full effect of the chase scene...Few compare to it...Ben

It was the pacing that got me - I got bored of it and I dont think I watched it up to the car chase (which I had seen before) - Kinda like Easy Rider, I can see why it caused such ripples in its day, but for me now, they're both kinda tame.

"Easy Rider"...I think the principal actors in it are very good and I'm a fan of custom bikes but I never liked the movie...Probably because I never used drugs and will always believe drug abuse is wrong...Ben

So, following an insanely tiring week, I decided to crash out this afternoon and watch The Bucket List.

I kinda thought this would be mindless slapstick fun with Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman (who didnt look anything like she does in Dr. Who!) about two guys completing a list of fun things to do before they die.

It was actually very well written - had a good balance of comedy and poignancy - and was very thought provoking. I would recommend it -unless you're a girl, because you will cry and your make up will run...

See? I always do that - why cant I just be nice...

I also just got 2 free tickets to a WALL-E preview on Sunday morning through the Times. Yay me!

Two this weekend thus far.

Halloween 2007 ... Rob Zombies take on Halloween. This film is either pretty cool or pretty shite depending on how you watch it. If you take it as a remake it's awful. If you watch it as a film in it's own right and forgot the Halloween connection it's a pretty cool take on how these iconic killers come into being, a decent into madness and brutality. Oh, and there's loads of blood too :D

I Am Legend ... better than I thought it would be by a country mile but still a mild disappointment given what it could have been. Will Smith was very good in it mind, and some interesting ideas ... I think they spent all their budget closing down New York though and didn't have enough left to properly finish the CGI. Not bad though.

So, off we went to see Hancock last night. I was expecting from the reviews I'd read to see 40 minutes of reasonably interesting film, followed by 50 minutes of silliness and CGI fest.

Actually though, the film was well thought out. There were a few nice plot turns (twist is probably too stronger word!) but the story was executed very well. The performances were solid and it didnt degenerate into silliness as expected at all.

Quite a few people I've spoken to have said they'll wait for this on DVD, and there is a lot of good stuff coming up in the cinema. But, I would say, if you can find the time to see Hancock at the flicks, it would be worth the effort.

I hated this movie.  Well.. ok I didn't hate it .. but it bore absolutely no resemblance to the book which I have a total fan-boy love for.  Its not too bad as a movie in its own right, but naming it I Am Legend when it should have been I Am Legend In Name Only Because I Am Nothing Like The Book... At All.  Really.  The Book is Much More Complex and Interesting and this is just a movie about Will Smith running around a desolate Manhattan..  caused me much disappointment.

I know that all book adaptations aren't the same as the book.. but really.. this wasn't even close.

Aye. It was a very disappointing film. They missed an opportunity to show us a thought provoking classic and instead brought us a hollywood blockbuster zombie film - and not even a very good one.

Last night Kevin and I watched Cloverfield.  I had been under the mistaken assumption that this was a teen movie.  It most certainly wasn't.  It started slow and them BAM everything starts happening and I will admit that parts of the movie were absolutely terrifying.    Most of these didn't even have the monster in them.  A couple of the shots were direct remakes of amateur footage filmed during the 9-11 attacks - most notably the deli/convenience store shot.

You have to get past the hand held camera action, which at times is difficult, but worth it in my opinion.    Not too much gore, but the spots that have it are disturbing and have haunted my thoughts since last  night.

I just wanna know why bad things are always coming to new york and why the military is always so keen on leveling us lol  Can't Chicago or Orlando get some giant beastie hellbent on destruction?
