Stuck in toilets

So many moons ago I got stuck in a toilet on a train from London to Staines. I can't remember if this made it onto the JDBB at the time, but the JDK and my friends eventually rescued me by ripping the whole door off... it was the only way, as even the train staff could release me.

However, I read this particular story on the BBC website today and thought that surely this guy must have been able to find some way of getting out... even it it mean't smashing the door down. After 3-4 days without food I'm sure my adrenaline would have kicked in and I'd be able to kick/shoulder the door or smash a window or something. I'm not sure of the circumstances, but if the handle came off the door, then the place couldn't have been that difficult to smash your way out of? weirdface

I suppose if the door opened 'inwards' meaning it couldnt be kicked open it would be a problem - but I'm sure I would have found a way out even if it meant smashing through the door - my immense anger would have rescued me... Stead smash...

I'm pretty sure this guy must have been spectacularly dumb not to beble to think of anything to get out. Maybe he was too afraid of being sued for breaking stuff. Don;t think it'd have bothered me!

Now what I'm worried about is the state of the loos if they only clean 'em out every four days...

Another story about people getting trapped. Something about it doesn't smell right...

Women stuck in elevator for 2 days
Two suburban Chicago women were trapped inside a broken elevator for two days, surviving on two cough drops and six aspirin until they were rescued.
Beata Bartoszewicz, 25, and her mother, Roma Borowski, who work as cleaning ladies, entered an elevator in an empty Niles office building two days before Christmas Eve.

After the elevator doors closed, the women discovered they were stuck on the first floor of the two-story building.

There was no response from an emergency call alarm, Bartoszewicz told the Chicago Sun-Times.

Neither woman had a cell phone or water and the building wasn't due to open until after Christmas.

The duo became dizzy from hunger and Bartoszewicz said they tried to pry open the doors.

"I was close to thinking I was going to die," Bartoszewicz said.

The women, Polish immigrants who live in River Grove, tried to sleep on their coats and used a corner of the elevator as a bathroom.

Bartoszewicz said her mother continually reassured her.

"She kept saying, 'We're going to be OK, and we're going to spend Christmas Eve at home,"' Bartoszewicz said.

Two days later on Dec. 24, an employee of the building, Grant Koster, happened to go to work. Borowski said she heard him talking on his cell phone. The women yelled for his attention and he heard them.

Fire crews freed the women an hour later.

Bartoszewicz said the moral of the story is simple: "Always take your cell phone with you."
