Here's one for you...


D & I were wondering in the lift at lunchtime:  Why is Mum the word?


Anyone know the origin?
Is it 'the word' in your neck of the woods?
Why not 'Knickers' instead?

It's not Mum (mother) but 'mmmmm', the humming sound made with a closed mouth.  It was used in Henry VI, Act 2. 'Seal up your lips and give no words but mum' and hence the modern derivation.
