Arrrrgghhhhhh! Need to vent!

I lost .. and ate all those bad carbs. Guess it's different strokes for different folks.

(Although the gaining it back in America thing - definitely still doing it, and now my magical dance mats broke so I'm not even doing my exercise) (and damnit, I just admitted to using dance mats)

Bread is OK in small quantities - it helps with your bran intake (keeping you regular) and as long as its good quality wholemeal its good for you. I wouldnt eat too much though - one or two slices a day is plenty.

I know I'm probably coming off as a bit of an arse but it really isnt different things for different people. If that were true we'd have to be designed differently and as we know, we are all effectively exactly the same - never mind colour or creed. You'd have to eat tons of good carbs to pile weight on but only a little of the bad stuff to have problem.

I dunno - maybe I should just shut up now lol...

Oh, I can have bread, I'm just not so bothered about it! In fact I guess I can have anything, it just becomes less appealing when you realise you'd have to miss an entire meal to have to scrummy bit of chocolate cake.

To merely lose weight all you need to be doing is consuming less calories than you burn. You could have all your calories in lard & you would still lose weight. (I'm hoping I don't need to point out that this wouldn't be healthy?)

To be honest the nutritional/scientific community still seem pretty divided on what's right & wrong when it comes to a healthy diet, short of getting your 5 portions of fruit & veg and 8 glasses of water a day (let's face it, there's even disagreement on those). There is more consensus on what you shouldn't eat: sugar & alcohol are "empty" calories, as they have no nutritional benefits & saturated fats & trans-fats are are bad, bad, bad. Think much of the rest is still open for debate & depends what sources you're reading.

Oh, and, no, don't shut up Stead! Where would be the fun in that?!!

Water? I thought It was gravy that we were supposed to drink 8 glasses of. That would explain a few issues, I've been having! blankstare.gif

Though I'd come back here to rant, so much easier for the rest of you to ignore than seperate threads all over!

I soooooooooooooo want chocolate right now! I'm just trying to find out who is responsible for putting the calories in it, so that I can kill them.

I believe he's already dead though, so who's in charge now? Although thank you for focussing my attention on Cadbury's, which I can easily resist. I fear the cause of today's craving may have been my drooling over the Hotel Chocolat catalogue last night.

Figuring if my breakfast, my snack & part of my lunch have done nothing to help then raisins stand no chance, so I shall just continue my homicidal grumpiness. Sure my run tonight will sort it, so that only another 8 or so homicidal hours to go...

In the meantime, let's discuss the movies of Lasse Hallström, in particular his 2000 hit, Chocolat.

Oh, FFS! This week I lost 4lbs. That's double the maximum healthy recommended amount. So, what do you think the wise, wise people at Tesco have done? Yep, once again they have LOWERED my calorie allowance!  I'm thinking that now is a good time to go round & shoot them all. cannon.gif

Well, 1400 according to them! Just found I can up my activity levels, which gives me 1600 - woohoo! But that's really not the point, the point is that if I'm losing weight too fast then they shouldn't be lowering my calories! If any survive the cannon.gif I shalll have to fight1.gifthem, or, if it comes to it, I shall set the face of Darren on them jdkgoof 25x37.

1400 calories? That's rubbish. Literally! Sack them immediately.

They deserve the face of Darren I tell you!
I shall not sack them immediately, as I had to pay for 10 weeks up front. However, I shall certainly not be paying for any more.

Pff. Sounds to me like the service is not fit for purpose and that you are therefore entitled to a full refund!

Hmm, I signed up to lose weight, & they're telling me to eat less, would be a hard one to argue.

Not really. If the advice they're giving is to reduce your calorie intake by dangerous amounts then it's not fit for purpose. Just like me telling you that you can lose weight by chopping one of your legs off is not fit for purpose.

I'm not sure 1400 is dangerous - not trying to be the devil's advocate or anything - it's cause you're a lady, if you were a boy they'd probably have reduced you to 1800 - bah! I hate them.

I'd presume that seeing you're already losing the 2-4lbs a week, you could hold off a bit and stick with the slightly higher amount, but eventually, prior to reaching your target weight loss you will probably even out and stop losing, that would be a good time to go to the 1400

Well, they should really be telling me to eat more, due to the speed of the weight lose, rather than the actual number of calories though, but I'd probably have to compile some proper evidence type stuff to prove my point. Also, I'm not sure they ever actually stated their aim was to get me losing weight at a healthy rate, it's not like they're legally obliged too.
I'm gradually uping my exercise, by following a running plan (probably why I'm starting to lose more), so shouldn't have to go down to the 1400. Unless of course I have something I want to look good for & then vanity may override sense!

It is possible and sometimes safe to lose 4lbs in a week - but normally thats in the early stages of a diet for someone who was really out of shape.

I would just keep an eye on it - also just to check - are your scales accurate and did you use the same scales each time?

Mine vary a bit dependent on air pressure and the like.

I know it's possible, I did it! (Actually, I noticed I'd lost 6 a couple of days before my weigh in, so I ate a bit more. The logic may be flawed but it's probably best for your safety if you don't question it.) Same scales, & would explain why I felt starving all week! (As opposed to the normal levels of hunger I've come to expect). Don't think my scales are sensitive enough to notice changes in air pressure!

Just thought I would mention the air thing - it affects most scales and even effects the temperature your kettle boils at! :)

Hmmm, I know there's enough of a reduction in pressure up a medium sized mountain that you can't make a decent cuppa, but enough change to be noticable on scales, just with weather variation? I am sceptical! Do you have evidence?

Ooh!  I live at sea level, maybe I'm lighter than I think!

Try sticking your scales in half a bath-full of water. Set it to zero and weigh yourself while it's in there. You'll instantly lose about 25% of your body weight! Job done! jdkthumb

Only anecdotal really - I've noticed I way slightly more on days with high pressure and I've heard other people talk about it... its something to do with the impact on the spring system or some such

It may of course be bollox but I thought it worth mentioning...
