Holy crap - that sounds pretty grim ! - Ive only been in one 140mph hurricane and it was awful but nothing compared to that!

ARGH! Don't you hate it when you type out a post and then accidentally hit Back instead of Sumbit?


See one of the problems with this hurricane is that everyone was so wiped out (emotionally, financially, etc) that no one could afford to evacuate. Shelters were only at half capacity. Most people had no choice but to ride out the storm in their homes - even though there was a mandatory evacuation for mobile homes, manufactured housing and people living in low lying areas. I've heard that so far they've found 4 people dead from the storm (in my county.. I don't know about others) and they say the destruction was basically Charley and Frances combined. It's pretty grim.


But it has provided some pretty good cartoons


And if you're interested in more news about the storm or pictures of the damage and whatnot, they're on Florida Today
