Which bit of news is cooler?

So I came across a couple of bits of news today that piqued my interest:

Scientists remotely control pigeons

BEIJING - Chinese scientists have succeeded in implanting electrodes in the brain of a pigeon to remotely control the bird's flight, state media said.

Xinhua News Agency said the scientists at the Robot Engineering Technology Research Center at Shandong University of Science and Technology in eastern China used the micro electrodes to command the bird to fly right or left, and up or down.
It was the first such successful experiment on a pigeon in the world, said Su, who conducted a similar successful experiment on mice in 2005.

Actually, i think the mice experiment may have been more impressive. I'd love to see remote controlled flying mice!

11 Dead, Over 100 Hurt at Kite Flying Festival in Pakistan
LAHORE, Pakistan — At least 11 people died and more than 100 people were injured at an annual spring festival in eastern Pakistan celebrated with the flying of thousands of colorful kites, officials said Monday...
The festival is regularly marred by casualties caused by sharp kite strings or celebratory gunshots fired into the air. Kite flyers often use strings made of wire or coated with ground glass to try to cross and cut a rival's string or damage the other kite, often after betting on the outcome...
Police arrested more than 700 people for using sharpened kite strings or firing guns, and seized 282 illegally held weapons during this year's festival, said Aftab Cheema, a senior Lahore police officer.

Extreme kite flying. That's like, wicked cool. Except for the whole dead people thing, obviously!

I read the remote-control pigeon article earlier in the week - I like how it ended with something along the lines of 'now all we have to do is find a use for them'

Ermmm, you do know kite flying can be an extreme sport?
Controlling pigeons is just wrong.

Not generally with razor wire and guns though, presumably...

The concept could be tricky though: if only one side had them then they'd certainly lose any element of suprise; both & they'd have to keep stopping to untangle their strings!
