Poll: Should Britain become the 51st State of America?

There's this rather bizzare 'campaign' on the BBC Action Network...

Great Britain to become 51st State of the US of A

Objectives:
1. Become part of the most powerful nation
2. Adopt the most powerful world currency
3. Join the most powerful world economy
4. Become the US Gateway to Europe i.e. a la Hong Kong was/still is to China
5. Increase our standard of living
6. Our position economically and in terms of international influence would be far greater than being a reluctant member of an ineffective and bureaucracy-bound undemocratic EU with internal national state conflicts, cultures and languages.
7. Before long we could expect to wield a disproportionate degree of influence on the US and its foreign policy in particular...

Er... and so-on!

So I've put a poll up!

I dont know who came up with this but a couple of counters...

2 the US Dollar has never been the worlds most powerful currency and right now its unusually weak even by its own standards
3 Per head of capita its economy isnt that great either (sorry)
4 The Europeans hate us as much as the states (its because we have a proper language) so I dont think that would help the US really - also our strong exchange rate would screw up US to Euro exporting
5 ?Really? Ever been to LA?
6 Sounds like the federal government to me - I'm sure thats what people said about the US when it started. It will take time to bed in but I'd rather be part of a 350 million strong alliance than outside of it.
7 Yeah, not gonna happen - I like the US in general - people are just people - but politically they only entertain us when it serves a purpose. If we started opposing them on key issues it wouldnt bother their long term planning I dont think.
