Beware the Noro!!!.

So a week ago, Friday, somehow I went down, real hard, with the Noro:

Let me tell you, the Noro really sucks! I had some crazy symptoms before I drove into work, but though 'Oh, I'll be all right...' Wrong. I was back at home, on my couch in the fetal position by 12:30 pm, and stayed their until 4:30 am!

I'm really hoping this thing mutated to an airborne thing and wasn't transfered as the Minnesota dept. of Health suggests, because that's just dirty and wrong!!

Norovirus is passed in the stool and vomit of ill or recently ill individuals. If such individuals are foodworkers and do not wash their hands thoroughly, the virus stays on the hands and can be passed to large numbers of patrons through bare-hand contact with ready-to-eat foods.

Ew.  Makes you want to stop eating altogether.

Poor Nate.  You feeling better now?

It was 24 hours of pure living hell. Not last Friday, but the Friday before. And it really screwed up my entire weekend, as I couldn't eat anything on Friday, and couldn't even hold water. So I was dehydrated and literally famished all to rat-[censored] until Monday or so...

But yes, I am now feeling much better. Thank you, Suey-mate.

This stuff is highly contagious though, they're probably understating how this thing transfers, check out how many people got it here:

That sounds like something that is airborne, like the common cold, to me.

Seriously though... glad you're feelin' better.  It sounds like much suckage was had - and not in a good way.

To cheer you up, I am going to christmasify the JDBB banner.  Watch this space.... er... I mean the space at the top of the page!

No, but perhaps I ought to quit drinking from the pub's toilet.

Thanks for the revised banner, I feel all cheered up, now.

Glad you're feeling better Nate. That norovirus is a scary deal...

Kevin's stomach was bothering him last night so he started complaining that he had Noro.. I told him "No dear..Noro is in Minnesota. We've got e.coli."

Nate, it's not that I'm not symapathetic, because truly I am and I'm very glad you're feeling better, but...       don't you find your avatar's strangely appropriate?

Sadly there are a couple of people in my office who are in the habit of not having a post-pee handwashing session.  Oddly enough, when it's their turn to do the coffee run, I'm just not thirsty...

Nate, you may want to revise your wish to have caught this through an airbourne infection, no less eeuuughhhh!  An extract from an all staff email from the hospital that pays my wages:

How does Norovirus spread?

The virus is easily transmitted from one person to another. It can be transmitted by contact with an infected person, by consuming contaminated food or water or by contact with contaminated surfaces or objects.

The virus becomes airborne when an affected person vomits and therefore, patients in the same bay as an individual who has vomited are at risk of infection.

It is important to understand that diarrhoea may follow vomiting and uncontrolled diarrhoea in hospitalised patient increases risk of cross infection to other patients if staff fail to comply with basic hygiene measures.

And in another recent memo:

Due to recent budget shortfalls, the following cutbacks apply with immediate effects:

1. The toilet paper quota for each patient has been reduced to one sheet per day.  Any patient requiring more toilet paper may purchase it at a cost of £1 per sheet, or supply their own.  Corkage will apply.  Any patient who requires more but is unable to purchase or supply it, may not defecate whilst in NHS care.  They may, however leave the premises to perfom number twos.
2. One sick bucket per ward.  To avoid unneccessarily diverting nurses from important paperwork, this should only be emptied once it is full.
3. Air fresheners will no longer be supplied to wards.

It wouldn't surprise me if someone chundered, somewhere, where I was and got this puppy airborne, even at work. I did!

Just the fact alone that people at work were carrying this, and we all share a common bathroom, including sink handles, is probably a good way to get Noroed.
