It's just dawned on me...

I just read this article on the BBC website and it's just dawned on me why we're forced to endure Big Brother year after year:

The premium rate phone watchdog has launched an investigation into Channel 4's decision to allow evicted housemates back on to Big Brother...

Some 2,700 complaints have been sent to Icstis from viewers unhappy at being asked to vote again for contestants they thought had left for good.

The inquiry could result in Channel 4 refunding an estimated £3m to people who took part with phone or text votes.

It just never occurred to me just how much money thay were makeing on the premium rate phone lines.  I had just attributed it to 'cheap telly'.

Please god, let Ofcom decide that it's a con.  Maybe we'll finally get it off the air!

I guess its a bit like "Who wants to be a millionaire?"

Jasper Carrot and Chris Tarrant own 65% of the programme - they took £4m in phone calls in season one and gave away about £1m in prizes. The production costs of the programme were covered by the sale to ITV - so a cool £3m profit - not bad going and they have sold the concept all over the world now.
