Post-Interview etiquette

So I had a phone interview a few weeks ago. The HR lady asked me to follow up after 10 days with an email which I did. She responded thanking me for following up. The said that the hiring manager was busy and they still had a few more calls to make and hopefully would know something in another week. I say ok fine, now its been almost two weeks since then. Should I send another email asking for progress or wait longer? I just don't want to cross the line into pestering.

Timeline

Wednesday 19-7-2006: Interview
Friday 28-7-2006: I send followup
Friday 28-7-2006: Response: "Hopefully we will hear something next week as I have phone screens scheduled into Monday"

Any advice?

How about giving them a call?  That way you can say "I don't want to appear to be hassling you but...".

I could do that, but I would think that a call would be even more intrusive

Plus I am at work and don't really want to make that call from here.

Yeah, good point about the being at work thing.

I would tend to say go for it when asking HR, that's their job & it shouldn't effect you chances too much if you annoy them.  Bit trickier if you're contct point's your potential new manager.

I'd have no qualms at all about chasing them up. The lady in HR probably has no influence in the decision making process so I wouldn't worry about harassing her. I don't think any hiring manager would consider a 2 week chaser intrusive - parrticularly if you've been told to wait one!

Thank you both, I will send out another email this afternoon. Good point about HR not influencing the process too much. I am just used to our HR people that hate everyone and are spiteful. If they don't like you, you never make to the hiring manager even if you are qualified. I pissed off the HR b*tch who handles my department so its not looking good on promotions from within here.

I thought that winding up HR was an official Olympic sport. I was thinking of trying out for the UK team!
