For the demise of a great institution. Ok, it mostly played shite, but it was Top Of The Pops, dammit! BBC calls time on Top of the Pops The BBC's flagship pop music programme Top of the Pops has been cancelled after 42 years, the BBC has announced. "The time has come to bring the show to its natural conclusion," said the BBC's director of television Jana Bennett. In a statement, the BBC said the weekly programme could no longer compete with 24-hour music channels. Top of the Pops was first broadcast in 1964, from a converted church in Manchester. The final edition will be shown on 30 July. It is, however an opportunity to post a picture of the great Sir Jimmy Saville... Now then, now then. Jim'll fix it, yes he will... __________________ The King has spoken... But nobody listened.

My mum's brother burgled his house in the '60s - he nicked a gem encrusted watch but subsequently gave it back because he felt bad.

Or so the story goes... it may not have been Jimmy's and it may not have been my uncle - I dont really remember that much about the story to be honest. It may also have not been me.
