The following Dodgers have been smited by the JDK for their crimes against Jam:
All the girls! for picking on the JDK and damaging his already delicate self esteem!
The Basserd Who Nicked Copper's Stuff For the offense of nicking Copper's stuff. You are a tw*t, whoever you are and we all hope you get run over by a tram in Nottingham. Or Liverpool. Or whereever else they have trams!
Copper For the crime of playing with her Wii instead of her Jammie pals!
15, and I'd say that's skewed, no options for "Why the hell would I want comics or video games on my desert island?" or being out at 1am for a start. Guess it was written by someone too geeky!
A carnival performer whose show consists of bizarre acts (such as biting the head off a live chicken), and while regarded as foolish, inpet or clumsly, is single-minded or accomplished in scientific or technical pursuits and is socially inept.
..and it’s hard to be sure when the rather ill-defined modern slang term came into the language
.. and is well known, for example, among young people in Britain as well as America
i don't know if the americans can claim this one for sure?
(however, as i'm happy to be married to one, i don't think i can be punished for using their words.. however, i def said 'cool' long before any american influence came into play)
Erm, somehow you've missed the relevant bit regarding the context in which you've used the word, Kate-mate:
Some researchers suggest that at about the same time a second sense grew out of this standard English meaning, to refer to something that was superlative, exciting or enjoyable (or less strongly, something merely satisfactory or acceptable). The older English meaning was sometimes rather negative, since to be unemotional and in control might imply you were also withdrawn or depressed, lacking warmth, or unenthusiastic (as in someone getting “a cool reception”). Black American English, it is suggested, could have turned this on its head to make something cool its very opposite.
Apparently, the American influence on English in the UK transpired long before you met King Billy, and you're not alone.
I'm not punishing you, I'm simply calling a spade, a spade. It's an effort in education and ongoing learning, here, at the JDBB!
Actually, I should interject here, to clear up the 'cool' issue.
The world 'cool' was actually invented by me, the JDK in 1984. Now I'm sure you're gonna get all technical on me and suggest (strongly or otherwise) that it was in colloquial use prior to that date. This is true, from a certain point of view. As I know for a fact that I invented the word, the only logical explanation that presents itself to clear up this paradox, is that at some point in the future, I will invent a time machine, travel into the past and teach historical figures how to use the word 'cool'.
It simply demonstrates how accuarate random tests on the internet actually are. In this case, it's correctly identified that a chap as popular with the ladies as our Nate obviously is, can in no way be a geek.
