This one's for you Nate

ok, so my friend recently was surfing around on the internet as many of us are so well versed at doing, looking for competitions to enter, when she found this one:

Godiva Chocolate

Hoorah! 80 boxes of choccies and lots of jewelry..

but read on.. the official rules of this comeptition state:

Canadian entrants who are identified as potential winners must correctly answer, without assistance of any kind, a time-limited math question by telephone prior to being verified a winner & receiving their prize.

this is not made up - click on the 'official rules' link and look at the last line of the 'Eligibility' section

to ask a Canadian question myself: eh?

People like to test us. Fortunately, basic arithimetic is no big deal.

Something to do with stopping it being a lottery perhaps?

Where does it say it would be a basic arithimetic question?  What if it's full on calculus?  'Cause that would be hilarious.

"Congratulations, now all you have to do is answer this math question in 30 seconds or less ... Ready?  What is the average air speed velocity of an unladen swallow?"

That would defeat the purpose. They're not looking for math genius… You need to look at why they're doing this:

The goal is to make the question as simple as possible, yet have the question still qualify as 'skillful', which, apparently basic arithmetic is.
