'Bad' drivers facing £100 fines

Drivers who ignore road signs, block box junctions and misuse bus lanes in some of central London's congestion hot spots will be fined £100 from Monday.

Westminster Council said the measures would "keep traffic moving and improve road safety".

It is using its CCTV network to keep an eye on motorists who break these laws - taking over responsibility from police.

Motoring organisation the RAC said money raised should be put back into road safety measures.

Paul Hodgeson, of the RAC, said: "Motorists see these measures as revenue-raising very often so we want to see some, perhaps the majority, of this revenue being ploughed back into local road safety initiatives."

Heh.  I don't care if it is just a revenue-raising exercise - I think it's a great idea.  A coupla unmarked police cars looking out for tossers on the road wouldn't go amiss either!
