The following Dodgers have been smited by the JDK for their crimes against Jam:
All the girls! for picking on the JDK and damaging his already delicate self esteem!
The Basserd Who Nicked Copper's Stuff For the offense of nicking Copper's stuff. You are a tw*t, whoever you are and we all hope you get run over by a tram in Nottingham. Or Liverpool. Or whereever else they have trams!
Copper For the crime of playing with her Wii instead of her Jammie pals!
"The researchers emphasise there is no impact on global warming."
Maybe not - but they have been saying that more frequent occurences of extreme weather (such as the winter we just had) IS due to climate change - which is 'man made'
So, not the sun fluctuating then... obviously -
Glad we cleared that up - along with the last ice age (our fault) and the world wide tropical weather before it (as evidenced in fossils found in the arctic), also our fault and of course the thaw from the last ice age - clearly our fault....

There are man-made factors, obviously, anyone can see the impact man has on the environment. It ain't good.
It also isn't causing global warming so shove that in yer trumpet Mr Gore.
We aren't helping, certainly within micro-climates of our own construct, but global warming ... and then global cooling ... will happen whether we are involved or not. Doesn't mean we shouldn't TRY, but just be aware it's for the general well being, not to make summer 0.5 C cooler, save the ice caps, whatever.
Too much evidence shows the earth is in a permanent temperture cycle. Too much media shows that WE'RE ALL GOING TO DIE IN A FLOOD/FURNACE/HURRICANE/GLOBAL-VOLCANO-EARTHQUAKE-PLAUGE-AIDS-IMMIGRANT DEATH SHOW!!!
Ah well, it's all a moot point anyway ... with gas prices what they are we'll all die this winter anyway so it won't matter either way.
I'm sure I had a point when I started this, maybe it'll come back to me later ....

Pretty much this. I'm not a scientist, I don't even pretend to be one, so I don't know whether or not we even register in the grand scheme of things. But even if cleaning up our act doesn't do anything to the climate, why do we WANT dirty air/water? Why do we WANT to throw garbage everywhere?
I'm with you - we dont 'want' dirty air of water - of course not, and I'm even sole on recycling now to save resources.
What I'm flagging is your first point on climate change and whether we drive it. So here comes another ramble from me, not aimed at anyone in particular....
I've yet to see evidence that cant be cut both ways. We know that Co2 levels are rising and we know that on average, temperatures are rising. Thats fact - but its the cause and effect dynamic that hasnt been demonstrated to my satisfaction yet.
An example is that we know there is a massive amount of Co2 stored in the oceans and that when temperatures rise, more oceans evaporate and so more Co2 ends up in the atmosphere. Its the cause of the warning that in my view is still up for debate.
We keep being told that the sun doesnt impact us - but come on... really? Its a bit like having an elephant in the room and the smell of poo in the air - and we go looking for mice and their droppings because we've decided its not the elephant.
Bear in mind the 1970's the accepted theory was the world was cooling and descending into another iceage - and that was debunked. I bet man made climate change is too (in the end)

That's been my contention for many years...Climate change is cyclic, always has been...I agree with Jackie about not wanting filthy air or water...Man should clean up after himself for the sake of sanitation......Ben

Having actually studied climate change a bit (no, not on Google, at uni) the scary thing is positive feedback loops. Taking Stead's CO2 in the oceans as an example; world gets hotter->CO2 released->world gets hotter... Now there's negative feedback loops too, so this stuff is going on quite happily all the time, but you get to a certain point & the balance tips & you end up moving rather rapidly in one direction or the other. If there's even a chance we might tip it over the edge then it seems to make sense to back off & clean up our impact.

But its this 'tipping point' I dont get - what does that mean? We're not going to bring the sky in are we? If the worst happens, and the polar icecaps melt and sea levels go up by a metre, we simply have slightly less land a new coast line.
Some animals wont survie, whilst others will flourish - but thats the been the nature of the world since day 1.
Life will find a way - Jeff Goldblum taught us that in Jurassic Park and Jeff Goldblum is awesome :)

Yes we absolutely would - we've survived for hundres of thousands of years including through an iceage - but it maybe that we wont be able to live anywhere we want to by just rocking up and hooking up power like we do now. In fact I think we're pretty arrogant about that already - we have millions living in tsunami regions, earthquake hotspots, natural flood plains and yet when these areas do 'what they do' we call it a natural disaster - when it isnt.
If one is dumb enough to pitch one's tent on the train tracks, one has to expect a train to come along occasionally -
@JDK - I accept we'd have to adapt, but we do need to start thinking about how many people we actually need (is it 7bn? or will it be 9bn or 11bn? when do we say 'enough now guys' the species is secure) and where they live. I personally think the big challenge isnt cars, or planes or even the weather, its the lack of appetite to deal with the population explosion. Particularly in the developing world - the trouble is there is no way to keep us in check. We're like the worldwide equivalent of MRSA. Whatever the planet throws at us we just keep breeding and solving the problems -
there... I said it :)
