I have no idea how you guys do the whole office job thing..
Pritty much most my life i've been working doing psyical jobs, lifting, cleaning or other such things. Always on my feet at any rate... but this week I started a new job as a baggage handler in Aberdeen airport Unforcantly that means a whole lot of training, mostly about stoping people blowing the place up :|, but i've stuck me in a class room for a week! I no have no idea how you guys do the whole office thing. After 4 days of sitting down my legs acke and i feel so stiff I've never been this still before! Got any tips?
Heh. Well I pass the time by browsing the internet, making silly wagers with Ben the Temp on which member of the phone team is going walk past next or when the sandwich man is going to turn up, thinking up hilarious acronyms for each new database and so forth or winding up the irish girl on reception. Oh and I occasionally do that thing that they pay me to do... that's it... work!
Seriously though. Any job is whatever you make of it. I wretle with thorny problems all day, whener they be coding things or projecty things or whatever. I go to meetings about stuff, make and take 50 phone calls a day and generally find the whole thing quite entertaining.
I've done manual jobs and office jobs and road jobs (no job jokes please) and I'd much rather have my desk!
Training courses are a different breed. They're only as interesting as you make em. Engage with the trainers, ask em questions, start heated debates. It's always good. Oh yeah... and foind something that you know loads more about than them and get them talking about it!
Agreed Lite, but training isn't work - at work, even in an office job you are actually doing something. In training you sit there are watch someone else do something - not the same thing at all.
I've been thinking about it alittle more and I think i've worked it out. Now I'm used to working hard and getting exersise at the same time.. so when I come home I just flop down and do very little. So I sit around being mostly bored all day.. then come home and flop down getting no exersise at all. Thats probally why my legs hurt. I've always though people who worked out such as biglet and stead were kinda stupid.... but now I see why they do it!
I thought going for 'nice walks' was poncey. And you wouldn't catch me in a gym. Too many posers who just go there to be seen and so that they can tell their mates that they're 'off to the gym'. Half of 'em don't even break a sweat while they're there.
