Have you guys heard about this storm that hit the U.S. on Monday? It looks pretty bad:

In a shocking assessment of Hurricane Katrina’s lethal destruction, New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin said Wednesday he feared that thousands had died in his city, and refugee centers began evacuating thousands of people as it became clear that the entire city was uninhabitable.

A friend of mine lives in New Orleans - or I should maybe say did..:(

She's pretty sure everything she didn't take when she evacuated is gone - but she wont know for sure for up to 2 months which is how long they estimate it might take to make the city habitable...

My heart goes out to all of the people affected down there

We've had plenty of coverage of this on our news.  It looks pretty damn awful.


Amazing to think that nature can reduce a city in one of the richest and arguably the most powerful country on the planet to what is effectively a third world status!

Yeah, a major U.S. area of residence and commerce, completely fubar. And, as it has been since Monday, it's getting worse in there as I type!!
