The following Dodgers have been smited by the JDK for their crimes against Jam:
All the girls! for picking on the JDK and damaging his already delicate self esteem!
The Basserd Who Nicked Copper's Stuff For the offense of nicking Copper's stuff. You are a tw*t, whoever you are and we all hope you get run over by a tram in Nottingham. Or Liverpool. Or whereever else they have trams!
Copper For the crime of playing with her Wii instead of her Jammie pals!
This probably only really applies to people who work in an office.
We have no formal dress code in our office. There's a good mix of people, some of whom turn up dressed properly in a nice suit and others who turn up in a scruffy polo shirt and trainers. There's an entire floor of people above us who work for a different company who seem to think it's acceptable to come dressed as tramps and vagrants and never bathe. It's always nice sharing a lift with 'em.
We've had the discussion before about what constitutes smart-casual - I don't think we ever reached a conclusion (no, dammit - jeans are not smart casual - they're casual casual!). But what do you actually wear to the office? And what do you think you should wear to the office?
Working in a bank, even though we're not customer facing, I'm of the strong opinion that we should be smart and suited up. I think it engenders a sense of professionalism - and anyway, I look good in a suit!
Summer time its usually a nice polo shirt and dress pants. In the winter, I usually wear a shirt and tie but no jacket. In the summer its just too danged hot to wear a shirt and tie, especially dealing with the temperamental heating and air conditioning in a 101 year old building.
Well, I was told recently that I seem to develop more of a dress-sense...I felt a bit offended. However, I think it's just that I slightly changed what I'm wearing for work to be distinguishable (is this an english word?) from my students. Although, I was asked at the train-station, if I was a student this weekend...but that was on the continent and believe me NO ONE dresses like english students!
I think 'dresses' is something of a strong word for most students, Cal. What they actually seem to do is wrap themselves in whatever bits of fabric happen to be around at the time, whether it be clothing or an old tea towel or the cat's bed...
That's how students dressed when I was one, but half the ones on campus now (Liverpool) are pretty posh looking.
I do the smart casual thing (again, no dress code), I agree on jeans, though I will wear them if I'm going straight out after work. Frankly I couldn't care less what people wear, just as long as it & they are clean!
when i worked in an office we had to dress smart, except for on fridays - it was non-uniform day and we got to go smart-casual (which does include jeans of course)
Me neither! Think that's what makes it even weirder. They all have mobiles & loads seem to have laptops & cars now too, no wonder they've sky-high debts! When were you there & what did you study? I graduated geology in '97.
Well... usually I work in boxers and a tank top... but on the days I actually have to put on clothing and leave my house, I end up with jeans and a tshirt which has the company logo on it.
Although the company just ordered tank tops for everyone... I assume its for the beach party they're having in september. Either way, now I have the tshirt or the tank top option.
Weird though since the company's dress code is business casual (although more on the business side than the casual side) and they just rejected casual fridays... so why they're ordering tshirts and tank tops for everyone is still a bit beyond me. I got lucky though since I'm only in the office for a maxium of 5 or so minutes every couple of weeks, they don't care if I show up in jeans.

2000 I think? Did my Masters there. I won't bore everyone with the exact title (and risk starting another debate about God, evolution and primate terminology) but I was in the Biology dept.
Miss Liverpool
(as in I am sad I am not there, not that I represented Merseyside in a beautry contest...)
The minimum standard of dress is business/smart casual with individual business or functional area having the freedom to set a higher standard
If you have arranged to meet a customer, regulator, or are interviewing prospective employees, please adopt the business attire dress code, which is a prerequisite of a professional financial services environment
Suit, collared shirt and tie for men; suit, blouses, smart T-shirt style top, skirt, trousers or dress for women
