Tough Decision...

As some people know I've been more or less unemployed for the last 6 months or so. Picking up contract work here and there, but nothing permanent - nothing serious.

Anyway - I did a contract job back in March that I really enjoyed, and really hoped they'd pull me on. The contract ended, and I didn't hear anything from them. So I put it in the back of my mind. Then last week or so I heard from my old job - they needed a favour, and were willing to pay me for it. So I agreed because it was easy work. Now that might turn into something a little bit more. And on my terms. I'd be able to work from home - and they already know that I'm pregnant, and don't have any problem with that. The reasons I left them in the first place are long and complicated, but one of the reasons, actually two of the reasons, are no longer there. The work is familiar, the people are familiar, and while its boring as sin, its easy money. Today I got a phone call and two emails from the other place asking if I'd like to come on board, and they'd be willing to make me an offer.

Problem is I really really wanted to work for this other company - its in an industry I like, doing interesting things. But the guy that brought me in (a friend of mine) took another job and no longer works there, they don't know ab out the pregnancy and might re-neg if they find out - and I would probably have to go into the office every day.

This probably looks like a really easy decision - but I'm torn

Hmmm, based on what I have heard, I would have to guess the home job?

That will be a very nice and more flexible situation once baby arrives.

Is the second job Full-Time or Contract? If full-time they can't say a word about the pregnancy. Make all this discrimiation and equal opportunity BS work for you

Ha ha! Nice, gentle advice right there!

The law might or might not be greyer than that though... I'm not a lawyer so it's hard for me to say if you were to take a job, knowing you're pregnant only to turn around and take FMLA leave.

Who knows, maybe it's koshir, but there's something not forthcoming about it in my mind... In any case, you might want to research it:

Who knows, maybe you tell 'em and they say, hey, congratulations, we're equipped to handle that!

See that's my real problem. Law or not - they can't NOT hire me because of it, but do I really want to start off at a place where I've got that kind of "non disclosure" hanging over my head.. like now they're stuck with me. I don't know if I could in good conscience go in there and not tell them - but it will certainly be interesting to see what they say when I do.

I say be up front with em. If there's no problem - cool. If there is, you can always take the boring one!
