Thunderbolts and Lightening...

...very very frightening!

Had a very cool thunderstorm last night.  It's the first one I've seen since I've been in Bristol.

People keep coming up to me and saying stuff like 'Did you get woken up by the storm last night?  There was loads of thunder and lightening and stuff'.  What they actually mean was that there was a half-hearted rumble of thunder and a couple of weak flashes.

Now last night there was a good 20 minutes of contsant strobe effects and almost continual thunder!  Fantastic!  Then it went away for a bit.  Then it came back again.   So cool.  Just like the storms we used to get across the Solent.

I suspect it will be reported on the news as 'The worst ever storm the West has seen' and be attributed to global warming, or the apocalypse.

I'm sure Andromeda can tell us what a REAL storm is like though.

Guess who slept right through it.

We were woken up at 5.25am by the phone ringing though - someone medical security team telling us our neighbour had fallen and could we go round and wait with her until the ambulance arrived and let them in.    Of course, says I, if only I had a key; nothing we could do.  Couldn't rest until we heard the ambulance arrive a full twenty five minutes later.  Apparently she's been admitted to hospital.

Well we're entering the rainy season, so about once a day the tv alert system goes off to give us a "SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING!!", which usually ends up being about 20 minutes of monsoon-ish rain with lightning that's quite pretty when it spiderwebs across the sky and thunder that makes the dogs hide under the bed.

Those are fun storms. It's the hurricanes that aren't so much fun
