Smart Casual

I haven't gone yet.

So. A point for discussion. The dress code for the course I'll be on for the next 3 days is 'smart casual'.

I had a disagreement with one of my bosses on the interpretation of this.

I read 'smart casual' to mean smart trousers and a shirt.

He thinks it covers jeans.

Who's right?

Jeans are casual.

Trousers & shirt with no tie is smart casual.

Trousers & shirt with tie and jacket (or no jacket if it's hot) is smart.

Suit with waistcoat, well, now you're talking.   Yum!!!
