Calling all geeks: Part deux

I have a computer problem.

It all started when Santa got a new computer.  He needed a new one for all that terribly important 'working at home' stuff (ie massively multi-player online gaming).  I inherited the scraps from his old one.

So, we dissected my old computer and took out the disc drives.  We popped them into the case of Santa's old one (along with a new hard drive), and the existing motherboard.  All good so far.

The problem is (here comes the punchline) - after I turn the thing on, it takes me to a dos screen and prompts me to press F1 to start the computer.  The whole process takes about 5 minutes.  It works fine when it has started up.

Any thoughts greatly appreciated.

Hmmm.  Sounds like what you have there is a computer problem.

There should be a way to disable the F1 prompt.  When you boot up, press F10 to enter the settings menu.  Have a look through that to see if there's any setting relating to the F1 Boot Prompt option.

If that doesnt work...  ask Stead.  He'd qualify as being more of a geek than me if he wasn't in a band!

Hmm.  Tried the F10 thingy, but couldn't find anything that looked useful.

Might try hitting it.

Is there an 'advanced features' option.  Try pressing ctrl+A.

Sounds like a BIOS setting needs configured, when your computer first starts does it say something like hit del or some other key to enter the BIOS? Or is this the F10 key option you were talking about?

There is bound to be a setting in there needs changed.

That was indeed my cunning plan.  I just forgot to use the magic 'bios' word.  Heh heh heh.
