This is actually quite a nasty story, but there's some irony to be appreciated in it.

I've cut down the article rather a lot, so you may want to follow the link to the full story...

Iranian to be blinded with acid for doing same to woman
An Iranian woman, blinded by a jilted stalker [Majid] who threw acid in her face, has persuaded a court to sentence him to be blinded with acid himself under Islamic law demanding an eye for an eye.

Ameneh Bahrami refused to accept "blood money." She insisted instead that her attacker suffer a fate similar to her own "so people like him would realize they do not have the right to throw acid in girls' faces," she told the Tehran Provincial Court.

Doctors say there is no chance Bahrami will recover her vision, despite repeated operations...

Bahrami told the court that Majid's mother had repeatedly tried to arrange a marriage between the two after Majid met Bahrami at university.

She rejected the offer, not even sure at first who the suitor was. Her friends told her he was a man who had once harassed her in class, leading to an argument between them.

Two days later, on November 2, 2004, as she was walking home from work, she became aware of a man following her. She slowed, then stopped to let him pass.

"When the person came close, I realized that it was Majid," she said. "Everything happened in a second. He was holding a red container in his hand. He looked into my eyes for a second and threw the contents of the red container into my face."

The three-judge panel ruled unanimously on November 26 that Majid should be blinded with acid and forced to pay compensation for the injuries to Bahrami's face, hands and body caused by the acid.

That was what she had demanded earlier in the trial. But she did not ask for his face to be disfigured, as hers was.

"Of course, only blind him and take his eyes, because I cannot behave the way he did and ask for acid to be thrown in his face," she said. "Because that would be [a] savage, barbaric act. Only take away his sight so that his eyes will become like mine. I am not saying this from a selfish motive. This is what society demands."

I've been thinking about this since I first heard the story... and I can't help but wonder how they will exact this "justice". Who gets to blind the man? Will he just have acid put in his eyes? Will he be anesthetized? Will they just take his eyes or blind him in some other way? I've probably thought too much about this.

I feel for this woman, I do. What happened to her was horrible, and disgustingly not all that uncommon. She is absolutely within her rights to want revenge and justice and for this man to be punished - as he should be.

But I guess I never gelled with that "Eye for an Eye" stuff... in this case quite literally.

These were thje days when Libya was a "friendly nation" and authorized to buy F4's and parts from McDonnell-Douglas...The U.S. had a 99 year lease at Wheelus Air Base in Tripoli...The madman Khadafi kept saying he would renew the lease at its end in 1968, but reneged on that promise and told us to get out...His idea, of course, was that he would have a fully operational Air Force Base turned over to him...

Didn't work out that way for him...Sales of aircraft and parts shipments were immediately halted and what became the biggest unpublicized airlift in history ensued...we began round-the-clock fighter cover over Wheelus as every available cargo aircraft we had was routed to Wheelus to begin dismantling it...When we were done, there wasn't even a door or a toilet seat left on the base...Even the runways and taxiways were torn up...

All that to say that the punishment meted out to the animal who blinded the young girl is insufficient but will do nicely...If they bankrupt him to pay for her care then leave him blinded but alive, he will become just another drag on their society and their ability to wage war...And yes I realize Libya and Iran are separate countries but their mindset is all the same, "Kill the infidel"...I'll be happy when the muslim contries are reduced to smoking ashes and it can be paved for for a new Israeli parking lot...Ben

If I remember rightly when Khadafi was drawing the 'line of death' in the sand the US fired the missile then phoned him up and said "You have four minutes to get out of your house - there's a missle coming right now" and he barely made it out with his VCR and testicles... KABOOM! lol now THAT's dimplomacy.

Ronald Reagan was quite a man...Having a cruise missile come through your bedroom window tends to make one lose his aggressive tendencies...I wonder if he still has all those non-airworthy F4's sitting next to the repair hangars waiting for parts and someone smart enough to install them...Ben
